New teacher for Kate Greenaway

Many of you will have already met our new teacher Nicola Morton. Nicola started with us this term and is settling in to our team very well. Nicola is a full time and permanent member of staff.

Primary School places.

This is the time of the year when families find out which school their child has been allocated. Many of you will have been offered the school you wanted and some of you may not. However, please be aware that if you haven’t been allocated your choice of school, there is still time for things to change. Many children do eventually get the place you applied for and it is often a matter of waiting and staying in touch with the school admission team.

As we are now beginning to plan transitions to primary school for the children leaving Kate Greenaway this summer, could you please let the reception staff know which school your child is going to. Primary schools often offer open mornings or visit days for you as parents so do look out for these dates.

Children with Special Educational Needs / Disabilities will have an accompanied visit to their school. Your child’s keyperson and or Joe Knutson ( Deputy head/ Senco) will take them to see their new school and new teacher, with you. This ensures that all vital information is shared with the receiving school.

Theatre Trip for the leavers.

For those children who are leaving for primary school this year we have arranged a trip to the theatre to see The Journey Home.

A separate letter has been sent to you about this. The trip is on May 13th (Wednesday) at 10.30 and will be held in the Jean Stokes Community Hall near Bemerton Children’s Centre. Parents are very welcome to come along and there will be a sign up sheet on the nursery wall very soon.

Science Saturday

On Saturday May 2nd we are running our usual Saturday Stay and Play and the theme of this one will be SCIENCE. Please come along and enjoy the activities with your children.

Bring a Grown Up To School Week, week commencing May 11th.

During this week we encourage as many parents and carers to come into school and work with the children, alongside the staff. Your visit can be anything from half an hour (for example to read a story with the children) or a whole morning or afternoon, depending on what time you can spare. The children always really enjoy having their parents at school and it offers you an insight into what your child does whilst with us.

Our aim this term is to offer something around science and staff will be planning activities accordingly. There will be a sign up sheet available soon so please join the staff in offering one of the activities.

Some of you might like to offer something particular as an activity, if this is the case just let staff know. In the past we have had parents playing an instrument, reading stories in a different language, helping the staff to cook with the children, even creating a role play hairdressing salon.

Wallpaper !

If anyone has any old and unwanted wallpaper , staff would really appreciate it for nursery use. This will be used for large scale mark making with the children. Thank you !

An event for Parents EARLY BRAIN DEVELOPMENT.

On Tuesday 19th May 6pm – 7pm we are holding a workshop at Kate Greenaway for our parents on early brain development in children and how it can impact on future learning. This event will be by Sarah Tamoum, an Islington early years Consultant.

We will extend childcare until 7pm on this date to facilitate attendance, however you MUST let reception staff know if you would like to attend and if you would like to book your child in to the extended childcare.

Healthy Start Vitamins

Kate Greenaway is now supporting the distribution of healthy start vitamins in partnership with health.

These vitamins are available for every child under five, every pregnant woman and any woman trying for a baby.

Please ask at reception for details.

New Monday Stay and Play.

We have recently moved our Monday Stay and Play from Winton Primary School to Kate Greenaway. The theme of the session is Toy Library, please do come along and make use of the toys available for loan.
