KEY TO UBC WORD

History:

This vocabulary test measures one aspect of verbal ability. It was modeled after the Quick Word test developed by Borgatta and Corsini (1960). Originally, the stems were all five letters and the options were all four letters in length.

At least one change has been made to every item in this version. Archaic content was the primary reason for making changes. Others included my disagreement with the keying. Note that the impeccable 4-letter rule was broken for many of the changes.

This version correlates .55 with the Wonderlic IQ test (.67 with its Verbal subscale).

Scoring:

  1. The keyed items (in bold print) are correct. To administer, remove the bold and print.
  2. To score, add up the number correct and divide by the total number attempted.
  3. Either the total number correct or the percentage can be used as the overall score.

Norms:

Based on 210 students from University of British Columbia

Mean = 35.3 SD = 12.9
