STUDENT READING LIST

2016 - 2017

Dear Parents,

This list of books is intended as a guide in helping you and you child/children select reading materials. When choosing books to read, it will help to keep the following in mind:

·  The grade levels are approximate; do not expect your child to be able to read them all without assistance. Make sure that the reading experience does not become frustrating.

·  Read to your child frequently and consistently, even to those who can read alone. Remember that research shows that children who are read to become better readers and develop better vocabularies.

·  Let your child see you read; your example is the most valuable.

·  Encourage your children to read to each other. It is particularly helpful when the child with difficulties reads to others.

·  Try to encourage more reading and less TV!

·  Take your child to the public library to obtain his or her own library card and encourage him/her to use that card frequently.
