To Parents of Hoover Recreation Softball players:

As we approach the middle of the season, we want to thank you and your daughters for their participation this spring. We hope this spring season has been a positive experience and that your daughter(s) are having a lot of fun.

We have reached the point in the season where we are beginning the process of selecting the post season All Star Teams for each league. The All Star season allows the girls of higher skill level in our park to compete against other area teams in a tournament format, ultimately resulting in a state championship.

The All Star season begins immediately after our season ends on May 18th and extends throughout the month of June. It consists of 4 tournaments in the Birmingham area with pool play games on Thursdays and Fridays and tournament play on Saturdays. The girls will also be required to practice several times a week throughout the month of May and June as they prepare for each tournament.

Playing requires a significant commitment on behalf of the parents and their daughter. One of the tremendous benefits of playing All Stars is that it allows your daughter to compete and practice at a higher level of play than regular season games can provide. It’s also a great deal of fun for kids as they get the opportunity to represent our park and the city of Hoover in tournament play. Hoover’s teams are typically very competitive with the other teams in our area and around the state.

Teams have the option to raise money through donations which can reduce team expenses. Typically, team expenses are between $100 and $200 per player depending on what each team decides to purchase.

The All Star selection process is as follows: Tryouts will be on Friday May 3rd. The head coaches will evaluate the players and the top ten players voted on by the coaches will make the team. The head coach for the All Star team can then select up to three additional players to be on the team at his discretion.

All commitment forms are due no later than Saturday, April 27th

Girls are only eligible to play All-Stars in the league in which they were registered to play during the regular season. (USSSA rule) Girls that have participated in a travel ball tournament in 2013 are not eligible to play All Stars.

Girls must be age eligible for their league to be considered. (USSA rule)

The All Star Coaches will be selected or voted on by the coaches of their league and approved by the Hoover Softball Association Board.

It is important to note that all eligible girls interested in making the commitment to All Star play will be considered, however NOT everyone will be selected. In order to make team numbers realistic (10 -12 per team), the league’s head coaches will vote and skill level, attitude and commitment availability will be the only factors used to determine who is selected.

If you submit your daughter’s name to be considered, please make sure that you and your daughter will be able to make the time commitment required for all practices and weekly tournament games. Exceptions must be noted on the commitment form.

Final All Star Team selections will be made on or before Friday, May 17th (if possible) All Star teams will be announced during our park’s end of the season tournament on May 18th.

The All Star season can be a great deal of fun and go along way in developing your child’s softball game and making new friends. If it is something you are interested in but not sure about, please let us know. If you have any questions, you are encouraged to speak with or any HSA Board member, your head coach, or your league commissioner.

Please call and talk to me if you have any questions.

See you at the park,

Hoover Softball Association Board

John Parker, HSA President

All commitment forms are due no later than Saturday, April 27th
