Advertise in this year's Get Involved Book!

The Ohio Union & Student Activities Office is giving you an opportunity to promote your organization for FREE. At the 27 new student orientation sessions this summer, nearly 6000 students will be enlightened to the benefits of student life at OSU. These "Get Involved" sessions have been extremely successful in past years. Each student attending the "Get Involved" session will receive a free copy of the student organizations view book. The book has proven to be an effective way to promote joining student organizations. Here is where your organization can be involved. You can advertise your organization to incoming students BEFORE classes start. Fortunately, it will be at NO COST to your organization. If you want to be included, here is what you need to do:

1) DEADLINE: Submit your ad design by Noon on May 16, 200 6 , through an e-mail attachment to or on disc to the Ohio Union, Room 211, attention Alyson Kaczkowski.

2) AD FORMAT: Ads should be in an electronic format (Word, pdf, jpg, .tif, or Illustrator.)

3) AD SIZE: Ad size must be 4" horizontally by 5" vertically

4) AD COLOR: All ads will be printed in black and white.

5) AD CATEGORY: Along with your ad, please indicate which of the following categories best describes your group:

a. Academic/Educational

b. Ethnic/Cultural

c. Governance Bodies

d. Greek (Social Fraternities and Sororities)

e. Honor/Recognition

f. Professional

g. Recreational Sports

h. Religious/Spiritual

i. Service

j. Special Interest

k. Performing Arts

Due to space limitations, only the first 200 ads can be accepted. Please be creative with your ad. Graphic designs and artwork are encouraged as long as it is not vulgar or obscene in nature. In your ad, you may want to include summer/fall contact information, first meeting time and location, planned recruitment activities and websites. In addition, I have samples from last year's view book in the Ohio Union, Room 211, if you need artistic ideas.

*** This is a wonderful opportunity to promote your organization, and also a Great opportunity to work with the new Graphic Design Department for Student Organizations! If you are interested, the services of the Graphic Design department are available, free of charge, to the first 15 organizations who contact to have their ad designed for the view book. Please be prepared to discuss the design concepts of your ad when contacting Alyson. ***

III. Miscellaneous Announcements

Off-Campus Student Services would like to invite new and continuing student organizations to become a part of the Adopt-A-Street program—

The Adopt-A-Street program at The Ohio State University provides student organizations a long-term opportunity to enhance the quality of life for residents living in the off-campus or University District area by assisting in creating a cleaner, safer and well-informed community off-campus.

Organizations participating in the Adopt-A-Street program are asked to complete three tasks:

Community clean up: Once per month (as weather permits), representatives from the participating organization will clean up the litter that has accumulated in areas along their adopted street.

Distribute literature: Once per quarter, participating organizations are asked to deliver "lit bags" filled with helpful information for off-campus residents.

Community partnerships: Participating organizations will be called upon occasionally to work with other community leaders in the University District.

The Adopt-A-Street program is ideal for student organizations that are interested in completing service projects for several reasons.

1. The program is geared toward students and their schedules; it allows groups to be flexible with scheduling clean-up and literature drop activities. Groups are not expected to complete clean-ups over breaks (such as summer).

2. The same students are not required to do the service each time, so groups can be accommodating with group members about who participates and when they do so.

3. Cleaning up litter and distributing information is not extremely strenuous task. On average, litter clean-ups require an hour and literature drops require a half hour depending on the number of students participating.

If your organization is interested in participating in this program, please contact Stacyanne Headley or Sean McLaughlin in the Off-Campus Student Services office at 292-0100, or visit us at 342 Ohio Union, 1739 N. High Street. Information is also available on our website at http://www.offcampus.osu.edu/adopt.asp

Ten OSU students will win a $100 BuckID bonus just for taking 20 minutes of their time to complete a confidential survey—why shouldn’t they be your members?

The following email that offers the chance to win a $100 BuckID bonus in exchange for completing a confidential opinion and awareness survey is being distributed to OSU students next week.

If you will take a moment to read the email, you will see this is a legitimate offer that could benefit your members. You can also confirm the validity of the survey by visiting http://www.osu.edu/currentstudents/

Of course, your members will be getting this offer through University email updates. But chances are they’ll be more likely to actually READ the email if it comes from you.

Please take a moment to delete the above. Then, just forward the following email to your LISTSERVE changing the subject line to, "Make sure [insert the name of your organization] opinions count"

Article I. Students: Take a Survey and Win a $100 BuckID Bonus

Saperstein Associates, an opinion research firm in Columbus, Ohio, is conducting a scientific survey among OSU students.

This brief, strictly confidential survey deals with an important issue on college campuses nationwide. It should take just about 15 minutes to complete. By answering our questions, you will be eligible to win one of ten $100 cash gifts, which will be added to your BuckID -- REALLY!

Be assured that this survey is a research project with one objective: to measure opinions. It is not a "sales pitch." Every response will be held in the strictest confidence, and your email address will not be sold. We are looking for input that represents undergraduate through graduate and professional students, men and women--the entire campus community.

Please complete the survey by clicking on the following link:

http://websurveyor.net/wsb.dll/15609/06045.htm

Our very first question invites you to enter our drawing to be one of ten students to have $100 added to his or her BuckID. The winners will be notified by email.

Your responses will go directly to Saperstein Associates where they will be retained separate from your email address and maintained in strictest confidence. No one else-not even University personnel-will see the completed surveys. Results will be reported only in the aggregate.

When you have answered all of our questions, simply click on "submit" to forward your responses to us.

Should you have any questions about this survey, send me an email at

Thank you in advance for participating in this important project.
