2017 FCSPA Annual Contest Rules

(After each rule, the corresponding section of the FCSPA Constitution is cited.)

Student Eligibility

“This is a student competition. All entries must be the work of students only, with no involvement of

faculty or professionals except in an instructional or advisory capacity.” (Section 1a*)

To participate in the annual FCSPA competition, a student must meet the following criteria: (Section 7*)

1. Have a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade-point-average, unless it is the student’s first term in college;

2. Be enrolled in at least six credit hours at the time of submitting the work to the publication;

3. Have entered materials for no more than four years.

College Eligibility

This contest is open to any Florida StateCollege, junior or community college that has a newspaper or

magazine and is a member of the Florida College System Activities Association. (Section 2*)

Eligible Materials

Entries must be from current school year (i.e., any materials from July 1, 2016, until deadline for entries –

(June 1, 2017, for Newspapers and July 1, 2017, for Magazines). All contest guidelines must be followed

or entries will be disqualified (Section 8a*)

Contest Cost

There is a $50 entry fee per publication entering.

Deadline

Entries must be submitted through the Google Drive link by June 1, 2017, for the Newspaper Competition

andby July 1, 2017, forthe Magazine Competition. However, entries may be sent any time before these

dates following disseminationof entry forms by the contest coordinator. (Section 8*)

Preparation of Newspaper Entries

1. Forms marked "Newspaper Entry Form" must be used. All preparation requirements will be specified by

the contest coordinator. (Section 9*)

2. Digital entries will be entered by files labeled with the Letter of the Competition – for example,

N for Newspaper, then the number of the category being entered, and name of student newspaper in a

keyword. These entries should bedropped and dragged to the Google Drive link for the publication.

3. Each publication may have only one entry per category (unless designated otherwise), but may

enter as many of the total categories as desired. (Section 9*)

4. The contest coordinator will email a receipt confirmation to the adviser.

Preparation of Magazine Entries

1. Forms marked “Magazine Contest Entry Form” will be used. All preparation requirements will be

specified by the contest coordinator. (Section 10*)

2. Digital entries will be entered by files labeled with the Letter of the Competition – for example,

M for Magazine, then the number of the category being entered, and name of student magazine in a

keyword. These should be dropped and dragged to the Google Drive link for the publication.

FOR THE LARGER SUBMISSIONS (such as M10 DESIGN and M11 EDITING), save the magazine as a "Reduced Size PDF" to shrink it from a 40M file to a 4M file. Or you can compress the file by using:

Failure to follow the above rules will result in the disqualification of a publication's entries. Please READ THE DIRECTIONS and

fill in the Summary Sheet and Entry Forms carefully and COMPLETELY. That includes the adviser's name, publication name, college and/or campus, address (including city, FL and ZIP), phone numbers and adviser's and/or publication's e-mail address(es).
