Textiles and Fashions I Criteria

Each student will make the following items during the semester.

1. Mitered pillow

2. pj pants

3. boxer shorts

4. skirt with elastic girls/apron for boys

5. nine patch pillow

When you have finished these projects you are free to buy a pattern of your choice.

Remember to buy “easy” patterns… no zippers, sleeves or buttonholes for

the 1st. quarter.

To get an “A”:

You must finish 3 projects a quarter, complete homework, take tests and spend

class time sewing. (Items with no pattern, do not count as a project).

Easy projects will count as one project; for example, elastic pant or skirt, elastic short,

pillow. More difficult projects: for example, blocked quilt, etc. will count as two projects.

Grades will be figured on a point system as follows:

1. Turn in task sheets each week. (25pt.)

2. Sewing project graded (15pts)

3. Work book pages (?)

4. Tests (100pts)

Students must buy their own patterns, fabrics, and dewing equipment. At different

Times throughout the semester, I will offer an opportunity to order patterns for $1.00

from Simplicity and McCalls.

This class is very relaxed and flows with each student’s ability level. Sewing is a

practical skill that anyone can learn if you have time and patience. In beginning

sewing, you must remember that your first project will not be perfect. You will

learn many new things…be patient, relax and enjoy! Sewing can be a real stress reliever!
