6 th Grade Volcano’s of the World Report
Due May 10 th ( worth 25 pts)
Research your volcano on the internet and from at leas t one book or journal source. Present this information in a Power Point format to the class. Y our presentation should have between 10 and 12 sl ides that will be shown with the LCD projector. Your Power P oint can be emailed or brought in on a memory stick. Check with your teacher BEFORE your presentation to see that it works properly.
1. What is the name of your volcano and where is it located? What cities or towns are nearby? Show it’s location on a world map - 3 pts.
2. What is the eruption history of your volcano? Is it a new volcano or one that has been erupting for many years? - 3 pts.
3. How was your volcano formed? What plate ( or plates) is it on? Describe the type of plate interaction OR hot spot activity that is at work. – 4 pts.
4. When was the last time your volcano had a major eruption? Describe what sort of eruption it was (quiet or explosive) and how it affected the area around it.
- 3 pts.
5. What is its current status (erupting, quiet, steaming, ash production etc…) today? – 2 pts.
6. What effect is the volcano having on people nearby? Have people been killed, evacuated, or are they learning to live with it? Are there any advantages to living near this volcano? – 3 pts.
7. Include at least 3 pictures of your volcano at different times (erupting, quiet, lava flows….) – 3 pts.
8. Bibliography: You must use at least 3 sources, and one must be from a real book, magazine, or newspaper. Pictures must be cited from their ORIGINAL source, NOT Google Images! Use proper MLA format by going to www.easybib.com or www.citationmachine.net . – 4 pts
9. Choose 2-4 people for your group. All of you must speak and answer questions. You should spend equal amounts of time on the project. You must also check that your power point has been received and can be opened BEFORE your presentation. – 3 pts.

YOU MAY NOT USE INFORMATION FROM WIKIPEDIA IN YOUR POWERPOINT!
Don’t bother printing pictures out, you don’t need them on paper.
Pictures should be saved to your memory stick and then inserted into your powerpoint slide. Create a folder for pictures and also one for bibliography details and save them to your stick as you do your research. Then you can use them later when you make your slides.
Remember that your bibliography will take up at least 1 slide from your power point. You may not have more than 12 slides total.
