11.00am Coxswains’ Meeting, followed by launching at 11:45pm.

1.15pm Race begins, 4 miles downstream to Portora Boathouse at EnniskillenRoyalGrammar School

2.15pmRefreshments will be availableat Portora Boathouse at EnniskillenRoyalGrammar School.

3.30pmResults will be announced and prizes will be presented by the Sponsorson stage in the Steele Hall of Enniskillen Royal Grammar School at 3:30pm.

THREE FINAL PIECES OF ADVICE

1. In case of Medical Need, The Northern Ireland Ambulance service is in attendance at Portora Boathouse.

2. Do not leave any money or valuables in the changing rooms.

3. Up to Twenty safety boats are in operation, but all crews are responsible for their own safety.

Please read the instructions below carefully, and follow the directions of stewards at all times.

Your co-operation is essential if the event is to be a success.

PARKINGOnly trailers will be allowed to park in the vicinity of EnniskillenRoyalGrammar School gates. Cars must park on the parade ground behind the MainSchoolBuilding.

COXSWAINSThere will be a MEETING FOR ALL COXSWAINS / STEERERSin the Northridge Boathouse, EnniskillenRoyalGrammar School at 11:00 am. Your attendance is COMPULSORY. Coxswains must wear life jackets during the race.

CREW NUMBERS Coxswains collect these from the Hon. Secretary at Portora Boathouse. There is a deposit of £10 on each number. They must be CLEARLY VISIBLE on the bow of your boat. Numbers must be returned after the race.

LAUNCHINGThis will commence at 11:40am in the order given on the attached list. Please bring your oars to the slipway prior to launching your boat.

ROWING UPSTREAMKeep to the RIGHT ofRiver on the way to the start; this is the rule of the river.

STARTING ZONEAll crews must be at the starting zone by 1:05pm. Late crews will be prevented from taking part in the race proper.

THE STARTThe start will be at 1:15pm. Coxswains take up positions beside their numbers, stern in to the bank pointing upstream until told to trun. All crews must be in position beside their number post, facing downstream by 1.10pm. Failure to be in position at 1:10pm may incur a 10 second time penalty.

WHEN THE RACE STARTS Crews are timed on a flying start as they cross the starting line where a RED FLAG will be clearly waving.

AT THE FINSH Crews must ROW THROUGH THE FINISH to complete course.

CHANGING Changing facilities for all crews in PortoraBoathouse (EnniskillenRoyalGrammar School)and at the Round O.

TEA AND VIDEORefreshments will be available before and after the race at Portora Boathouse and at EnniskillenRoyalGrammar School.

PRIZE DISTRIBUTIONPrizes will be awarded on stage in the Steele Hall in EnniskillenRoyalGrammar Schoolat 3:30pm.

Hazard Identification.

All points to be gone over at the coxes’ meeting.

  1. Weather and water conditions: risk of injury or boat damage due to high winds, high water, strong currents. Check forecast, water and weather conditions on the day and cancel the event or categories as appropriate. Rowers should be suitably dressed for the conditions.
  2. Trailers and boat assembly: risk of property damage and collisions. Have marshals to assist with trailer parking.
  3. Launching: risk of slipping into water, risk of tripping over equipment, risk of collisions and slipping at lunching. Have marshals to help with launching.
  4. Rowing to start: keep to the RIGHT on the way to the start; danger at Portora Barrage if there is a strong current: danger at marker spades. Have safety boats at Portora Barrage, attached to marker spades, and at suitable intervals along the course
  5. Start: risk of capsizing and collisions. Have safety boats and marshals in starting zone.
  6. Racing: risk of capsizing and collisions. Have safety boats along the course.
  7. Getting off the water: risk of collisions, capsizing and slipping. Have marshals in place.

Coxes and Launching

1. There is a COXES’ MEETING AT 11:00am SHARP. ALL COXES AND STEERS WILL HAVE TO SIGN IN OR WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO RACE. NO COACHES INSIDE COXES MEETING PLEASE.

2. Bring your oars to the slip first and then your boat, ready to launch at the time listed below.

3. All crews are responsible for having bow balls and heel restraints. This will be checked before slipping.

4. If your crew is not at the slip with its boat at your allocated time it MAY BE PREVENTED FROM LAUNCHING until after all other craft have taken to the water. This may result in your crew not being at the start when the race begins.

5. Keep to the right on the way to the start.

6. There will be a £10 deposit for each bow number.
