16th Annual Farm Tour! Sunday, Aug 28th, 9a-3p, Northern New Mexico

1. The Succulent Garden, Santa Fe

My farm is really a large garden, about one quarter acre. I grow a wide variety of veggies, flowers and herbs, keep 35 laying hens and maintain several fruit trees (no fruit this year). There is a small greenhouse and numerous cold frames. This is the garden's 24th year, 3rd year of growing for market. 505-438-1057

Directions: about 5 miles south of the Santa Fe Plaza at 48 Old Galisteo Way. At end of St. Francis Dr, take a right on Rabbit Rd, cross RR tracks and take an immediate left on Old Galisteo Rd (not confused with Old Galisteo Way). Take first right on Los Tapias Lane. About 1/2 mile, take a left of Old Galisteo Way, a dirt road. Come down another 1/2 mile and turn left at 38 Old Galisteo Way. Take first right, a dirt two-track. Park along road, not in plowed field.

2. Refugio Verde, Ribera

Refugio Verde is a family owned and run smallholding located on the Pecos River. Reclaimed fields support our Jersey cattle, vegetable and flower cutting gardens, herb beds and chicken runs. The landscaped gardens are used for the propagation of the drought-tolerant landscaping plants raised in our greenhouses. Handspun and dyed yarns will be available along with our woven garments and knitwear. Enjoy visiting our straw-bale farmhouse.
Directions: Take I-25 to Villanueva Exit 323, Route 3; turn right after exiting freeway and follow Route 3 for 7.5 miles. Look for the Refugio Verde sign. 575-421-2965

3. Schwebach Farm, Moriarty

Schwebach Farm is a 160 acre family farm in Moriarty, NM. We have been growing in the same location for over 40 years. We have a Farm Market on our farm and we grow sweet corn, pinto and bolita beans, potatoes, onions and many other vegetables and fruit. Visit us at for more details. 505-832-6171
Directions: From Santa Fe, take I-25 N to Highway 285. Take 285 S to Highway 41 into Moriarty. At the 2nd light, turn right on Martinez Rd. Go 3/10 of a mile west to 807 W. Martinez Rd. From Albuquerque, take I-40 E to exit 196. Go south on Highway 41 to the 2nd light, Martinez Rd. Turn right and go 3/10 of a mile to 807 W. Martinez Rd.

4. Gallina Del Sol, Stanley

Wendy McGuire and Barb Mann run a little farm out in the middle of nowhere west of Stanley. Partly it's a bird farm, with chickens, turkeys, peacocks, three types of exotic pheasants, geese, guinea fowl, and fancy pigeons. We raise some of these for food and some just for the feathers, and some for the eggs. The other main part of the farm is a nursery operation. Barb starts lots of crop, herb, and ornamental plants for sale, with an emphasis on iris (we have around 800 varieties).We also grow a very limited amount of produce, flowers, and fruit.

Directions: To get here, take I-25 north from Santa Fe to Highway 285 south. Just past Lamy, take the State 41 turnoff going south to Galisteo and keep going right through the Galisteo Basin. Eventually you will top out on the mesa, with Zorro Ranch on your right. Keep going straight to Stanley and turn west on Highway 472 heading toward Edgewood; go 5 miles to County Rd. 21, which is also Calle Victoriano and which is a dirt road going north. Go up about 3.5 miles to the yellow cattleguard, and you will see our farm on your right. Look for the round house with the pointy roof, the large greenhouse, and covered pens where the birds live. 5. Khalsa Greenhouses, Espanola

We farm 8,000 sq. ft. of greenhouse space. We are already setting the operation in motion for the fall/winter markets which is our primary focus. This is our second farm tour and we love to share with the community who we are and what we do. Cool drinks will be served.
Directions: We are 25 miles north of Santa Fe located just south of Espanola in the Sombrillo school district area. You turn at the Dream Catcher Movie Theatre towards Chimayo. Go to the second road on your right, Shady Lane; turn here and go to Prosperity Path on your right and turn there. The greenhouses are just a little way on your right and plenty of parking across from the greenhouses. 505-747-1415

6. Orozco Farms, Espanola

Analila and Reynel Orozco farm 3 acres using water from an acequia. Come see how they grow tomatoes, potatoes, melons, onions, green beans, cucumbers, zucchini, shishito peppers, carrots, beets, and other vegetables. Analila will have her crafts for sale, made with plant and flower materials. Tours available en espanol.

7. El Guique Farm, Espanola

Agustin and Maria Orozco tend 2 ½ acres of peppers, potatoes, onions, cucumbers, melons, garlic, and other vegetables. Their water comes from an acequia. Come visit their lovely family farm, and learn more about the small farm lifestyle. Tours available en espanol.

Directions: 706 Railroad Ave, Espanola. Take 285/84 N into Espanola. Turn right on N Railroad Ave. The farm is on the left, near DeVargas Funeral Home. 505-927-3047

8. Graciela's Farm, Alcalde

Come visit the peaceful small farm of Adrian Gaytan and Graciela Rodriguez. Their farm consists of about half an acre of tomatoes, jalapenos, squash, carrots, beets, onions, and other vegetables, watered using an acequia. Tours available en espanol.

Directions: Take 285/84 N to Espanola. Stay in the right lane to get on 68 N. Continue on 68 through Espanola. Turn left on 74 N towards Ohkay Owingeh. Turn right on Highway 582. Turn right on County Road 58. Farm is #1092. 505 927-6328

9. Maria's Farm, Velarde

Ted Salazar is famous for his brilliant variety of flowers, especially sunflowers. Ted will also explain how he grows chile, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and more. Come see the tractors and plows used on this small farm, and learn about Ted’s modern irrigation system with water from an acequia.

Directions: Take 285/84 N to Espanola. Stay in the right lane to get on 68 N to Velarde. Left on County Road 0057. Cross Rio Grande. Right on County Road 0059 to La Canova. Farm is 1 mile on the right. 505-753-4754

10. For the Love of Bees, Rio Lucio

We have a certified organic farm at 7200 ft altitude in Rio Lucio, NM. We grow vegetables, medicinal herbs and pollinator forage crops. We keep multiple honeybee hives on the property, as well as sheep, geese, turkeys and chickens. Our honeybees and animals are all kept without any kind of chemical treatments, and the birds and sheep are moved in continuous rotations throughout the property. We have recently received a Western Sustainable Agriculture and Research & Education grant to turn our property into a demonstration site for pollinator forage species, and many of these plants will be in bloom during the farm tour.
Directions: To get to our farm, head towards Taos from Espanola, and turn right on State Road 75 towards Dixon and Penasco. At the turn-off will be Vivac Winery. Go through Dixon and head up into the mountains toward Penasco. We are the first driveway on the right after the 12 mile marker. Drop down into the driveway and pass the fork to the right that leads to two homes with horse equipment, and take the next hard right onto a long straight-away that goes over the river on a bridge. Follow the driveway as it curves right after the bridge, then turn left at the shed to proceed up toward the red geodesic dome. Our house is behind the dome. No dogs please! 575-587-2065
