STUDENT PARENT INFORMATION

SUPPLIES NEEDED

1” - 3 ring binder, with inside pockets by the first day of school.

Students will have approximately 100 pages in their notebook by the end of year. The inside pockets are where student can put pencils or pens without getting lost. Notebooks are needed everyday and there is a slot for student to keep notebook in auto classroom.

30 sheets of loose-leaf paper for binder with a couple pencils or pens.

Most of the notebook pages will be supplied. Loose-leaf paper will be needed for a few assignments and practice measuring. Students will need something to write with everyday.

Coveralls/Shop Coats by September 17th. (May purchase USED coveralls (from $6) or NEW Shop coats (from $12) from Auto Club depending upon sizes and condition. Auto Club has most sizes)

Coveralls or shop coats are needed to keep street clothes clean and more importantly, to keep from getting loose fabric caught up in moving equipment and will be needed every shop day. Student will have access to their own shop locker where these can be stored. Coveralls can be washed at school if put into the wash barrel on washdays.

Safety Glasses with a Z87 safety rating by September 17th.(May purchase new from Auto Club for $4)

Safety Glasses are needed everyday when working in the shop.

Older Briggs & Stratton small engine 5 hp or less by October 24th.

The engine doesn’t need to run, but needs to be complete. #92000 model series work the best but others will work. Student’s grade on engine will have nothing to do with how well the engine runs when completed. Most of the engines are not worth putting money into but we usually can make them run when the student gets them assembled back together in April.

If you can’t find one lying around from a friend or neighbor, the dump usually has them and check out yard sales and auctions. Don’t pay more than $5 or $6 for one. (If you can’t find a small engine, see Mr. Barnes before the middle of October.)

We have the manuals and all of the tools for Briggs & Stratton and Mr. Barnes worksheets are created for Briggs & Stratton, so we can’t use other brands of engines.

ATTENDANCE

If a student misses Auto classes, it is very difficult to make up. It is the student’s responsibility to prearrange for work due when an absence is known in advance including athletic contests and other school related absences.

Safety, tools, measuring, and basic engine theory learned in the 1st semester will be required to be successful in ALL future semesters of Auto.
