Position Title: Director of Congregational Development

Roles: The Director of Congregational Development for the Wisconsin Conference develops and implements resources for developing new faith communities, new church starts, mission congregations, and in partnership with other staff redevelopment of existing congregations. The Director of Congregational Development serves as a member of the Appointive Cabinet.

Including:

Support and facilitate the District (DST) and Conference Strategy Board (CSB) in ongoing process of assessing churches ready for redevelopment or launching new faith communities, locations ready for new ministry, and possible new cooperative-shared ministry development. Provide research and support in ongoing strategic planning and development efforts.

Recruiting and Training for New Faith pastors and emerging leaders. Provides oversight, direction and leadership of the Institute of Congregational

Development for the Conference. The ICD is an intensive twelve month training process that provides education, resources, and leadership development for clergy and lay committed to new church planting and church revitalization in the Wisconsin Annual Conference.

Provides oversight, direction and leadership of ALHMA 2.0: an ICD type leadership development program for Hispanic/Latino participants.

Supervisor: Bishop of the Wisconsin Annual Conference in consultation with the Wisconsin Annual Conference Personnel Committee.

Supervises: part time Coordinator of ICD

Relates: Assistant to the Bishop, District Superintendents, Director of Connectional Ministries, Director of Communications, Conference Treasurer

Skills and Experience:

•  Ordained United Methodist Clergy

•  Preference for candidate to be bilingual (Spanish/English)

•  Proven ability to communicate well with wide diversity of people and culture

•  Demonstrate effectiveness in leadership and participating in new or growing churches

•  Ability to provide theological reflection and to interpret the mission of the Church and Annual Conference

•  Excellent oral and written communication skills

•  Ability to use and implement appropriate technology

•  Ability to relate positively to a variety of laity and clergy

•  Ability to work well under pressure

•  Ability/willingness to travel through the Annual Conference and, as needed, outside the Conference

Employment:

The Personnel Committee and Bishop will determine salary and housing allowance. The personnel policies of the Wisconsin Annual Conference will determine benefits. This position is defined as “exempt” in the personnel policies. Office location for the Director of Congregational Development will be the Conference Center Offices in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.
