Job Summary:

Responsible for the design and administration of a maintenance, preventive maintenance, procurement and record keeping program covering all the District’s vehicle fleet and motorized equipment.

Essential Functions:

Plan, schedule and assign the inspection, maintenance, repair and overhaul of a wide variety of motor vehicles, trailers and gasoline or diesel powered equipment.Establish budget and control expenditures

Provide short and long term planning that defines objectives for the operations and maintenance areas, Establish budget and control expenditures, creates schedules and allocates staff appropriately, and establishes priorities for resource utilization, and identifies the need for capital expenditures.

Establish maintenance, repair and overhaul procedures. Establish safety work rules and enforce safe work practices. Initiate purchases of tools, material, supplies and parts. Coordinate necessary stock items with storeroom.

Inspect work in progress to assure conformance with established maintenance, repair and overhaul procedures. Assist departments in developing specifications for new vehicles.

Schedule work to be performed by vendors including recalls, warranty and repairs. Define the scope of work, obtain quotations and arrange for contract services when necessary.

Coordinate necessary stock items with storeroom.

Inspect work in progress to assure conformance with established maintenance, repair and overhaul procedures.

Receive all new motor vehicles and inspect to assure conformance with specifications.

Recommend vehicle and other motor equipment replacement based upon life-cycle analysis criteria including age, condition, value, cost and maintenance history.

Assist departments by evaluating needs, developing specifications and preparing bid documents for new vehicles and other motorized equipment. Evaluate bids and prepare recommendations. Receive all new motor vehicles and inspect to assure conformance with specifications.

Supervise, direct and coach subordinate personnel. Evaluate personnel performance. Hold grievance and disciplinary hearings. Initiate and recommend disciplinary actions.

Create willing cooperation between team members by emphasizing the importance of reaching an objective.

Utilize computerized maintenance management system to plan, schedule, and report work. Keep detailed records and write reports. Initiate accident reports.

Establish effective communications with user departments requiring automotive service.

Integrate verbal and numerical information to create reports that are understood by a wide variety audience and to estimate staffing and resource needs.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education:Associate’s degree in Automotive Technology or closely related field, desirable or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:Up to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of light and heavy-duty automotive

and truck equipment,two (2) years of which have been in a supervisory capacity.

Specific Skills:Understanding of managerial, administrative and technical practices and procedures for a successful vehicle maintenance program; ability to communicate orally and in writing; proficient in MS Office Suite.1-3 months training in Synerge

Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc:

Membership in the National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA) is desirable.

Valid Ohio Driver License and a driving record in accordance with the District’s insurance carrier.

Working Conditions:

Time split between general office and vehicle maintenance garage.

Physical Demands:

Half of the time spent sitting and up to 20% time spent standing and walking with occasional stooping or climbing. Up to 15% of time spent out of doorsor in a dirty environment. Less than 1025% of time spent in noisy environments wearing eye and ear protection.
