Old Business

  • Kari Koch, EPNO office, led a discussion on the homeless issues in East Portland. City designated camp sites are not expected to be identified in each of the neighborhood groups of the city. Cooperative arrangements are being developed in the more commercial areas of East Portland with churches and business where more services are available and accessible, including waste management. The new shelter for families on SE 162/Stark Street is a welcome resource for our homeless neighbors. Wilkes issues with homeless continue to be people sleeping in cars, motor homes and abandoned homes. Camping in parks would not be approved where the watershed would be affected as it would be with the Wilkes parks.
  • Land Use: Alice Blatt gave an update on advocacy for the Portland Transportation Systems Planning, deadline is March 22 for written testimony on streets of concern to Wilkes residents: 148th north of the freeway, Halsey from 122nd to 162nd, and 162nd from Halsey to Sandy.
  • Parks: Joyce Ley gave an update on planning for our movie in the park August 6, and also noted that she is our designee to the East Portland Neighbors Board.

New Business: Carrie Johnson will be attending training for the tree inventory on March 12, more volunteers will be needed for the eventual task.
