STATEMENT OF PROCEDURE:

The consumption of food or beverages in the plant is restricted to designated areas. Accidental contamination of foods by toxic or hazardous materials is a serious hazard.

The purpose of this procedure is to outline the steps necessary to prevent the accidental ingestion of toxic materials while eating or drinking. Tobacco products, chewing gum and sunflower seeds for the purpose of this SOSO are considered food products and should be stored in approved areas only and not taken into the unit.

PROCEDURE:

1."No employee shall be permitted to store or eat any part of his/her lunch or eat other food at any time where there is present any toxic material or other substance that may be injurious to health".

2.Refrigerators designated for food storage use must be labeled "FOR FOOD STORAGE ONLY". Chemical samples or non-food items must not be stored in refrigerators so labeled.

3.Chemical samples, toxic materials or other substances that could be a health hazard must not be allowed in designated eating areas.

4.Strict personal hygiene standards must be followed by personnel using designated eating areas:

a.Clean, covered waste disposal containers provided and used for the disposal of waste food.

b.Prior to eating personnel must wash their hands.

c.Table tops must be cleaned before and after food consumption.

d.Work clothing contaminated with chemicals or other substances must be stored outside of the designated area.

e.The designated eating area must be maintained free of insects and rodents. The prevalence of flies and roaches are indices of the sanitation level of the eating area.

5.The SHE Department will coordinate periodic inspections of designated inplant eating areas.

6.Approved, designated eating areas now existing in the plant are:

  • Sports top bottle water only.
  • All bottles must be stored in ice chest at all times unless being consumed.
  • Ice must be bagged and cannot be consumed.
  • Once a bottle leaves the ice chest, it should be consumed and thrown away. Do not return to ice chest.
