Frequently Asked Questions and Answers for LITs

When will interviews take place for LITs?

Through-out the end of April.

When I am called for an interview, what should I bring?

Please bring any item that you’d like to share showing your experience working with children. In addition, please supply all of the dates that you will definitely be available during the JCC Summer Session (June 18-August 17), at the time of interview.

If a LIT has a conflict for one day in a week, is he/she still eligible to work that entire week?

No. You must be available to work the entire week.

Do my available weeks need to be consecutive?

No, as long as you have 4 weeks available during the 9 weeks of the JCC Summer Session. We strongly prefer LITs to work consecutive weeks for consistency purposes. If chosen for an interview, please come to your interview with your summer availability.

What should I do if I am sick?

If you are sick or need to be out for any reason, you must call or email your assigned Team Leader by 7am to let them know you will not be in that day.

What are some of our LITs expectations?

LITs should expect:

oTo be sitting with the campers/children

oCommunicate with the children with care, compassion and respect.

oCleaning up after activities

oCleaning any spaces that are impacted by Camp Ruach or the Shalom Center

oSinging at Morning Ruach every morning

oHaving fun

oFollow direction of their counselor and Team Leader

oHaving fun

Should I bring my swim suit every day?

Yes, LITs must come prepared with the appropriate attire to swim EVERY DAY.

What’s for lunch?

LITs must bring a bagged vegetarian lunch every day. Camp RuachLITs will have lunch provided on FRIDAYS!

Can I bring my cell phone?

Yes, you can bring your cell phone, however, all LITsmust deposit their cell phones in a designated area at the beginning of the day. Volunteers/LITs may check their phones if need be, but may only leave their assigned groups with the permission of their corresponding teacher or Senior Counselor.

As a LIT, should I clock in everyday?

Yes, all Volunteers/LITs must clock in every day. If a LIT does not clock in, she/he WILL NOTbe paid for that day.

As a LIT, will I get to go on fieldtrips?

LITs who work with Camp Ruachshould expect to attend field trips on Thursdays unless told otherwise from Seth Kellam or Mariah Schweiger. Occasionally field trips do not return until after 3:30. Prior to these field trips, your Team Leader will confirm whether your schedule allows you to participate. If you cannot participate you will be assigned to a different group or task at the JCC.

Are LIT’s required to attend overnights?

No, LIT’s are not required to attend Camp Ruach overnights. Should the LITbe asked and agree to, she/he should return to the JCC by 5:30p.m. LITs will not be paid additionally for overnights but will be fed dinner.

Did I hear that Shalom’s LIT program ends earlier this year?

Yes, Shalom LIT’s are dismissed at 1pm on Monday-Thursday and 4:30 on Fridays.
