What to bring with you to your interview:

Original educational certificates for qualifications you have already obtained to meet the minimum entry criteria plus a photocopy of those certificates.

Official photo identity eg passport, driving licence. If you do not have this a birth certificate is acceptable. If you have had a change of name we also need to see a marriage certificate, decree absolute, change of name by deed poll or other official documentation

Completed Referee Details Form & Completed Qualifications and Identification Audit form

One passport-sized photograph, showing a recent resemblance of yourself, for our records (please print your name, course applied for and date of birth on the back)

Proof of eligibility for a Department of Health (DOH) bursary(if applicable) – eg letter from the Home Office or proof of ‘settled status’ (please see ‘Bursaries’ section in this Guide)

* Envelope to seal this in will be provided on the interview day.

Please note you may be refused an interview if you do not bring all of the above items with you and it may not always be possible to arrange another interview date. What to expect at the interview

The interview process is anticipated to last for a minimum of two hours and will include the following:

Welcome and introduction

A presentation about the University, School and course

Group discussion

Three 5 minute individual activities

Short one to one interview

Individual development of a poster

Discussions and questions

You will be measured against the following criteria which is mapped against the NHS Constitutional Values:

Knowledge of chosen profession/career

An appreciation of the demands of the course and chosen profession

Enthusiasm for the course/profession

Understanding of professional values and attitudes in health and social care

Ability to communicate effectively

Relevant background experience in this area

Team Skills

Problem solving skills/creative activities

References

We require one academic and one employer reference and have attached a Referee Details Form for you to download, complete and bring with you.

You should already have provided us with one of the references with your original application.

Pre Confirmation of Offer – Health Questionnaire (University Process)

If you are successfully offered a place on the course and firmly accept this offer, you will be emailed a link to complete your Health Questionnaire. You will then be invited to a health assessment appointment.

Normally you will be offered one appointment only. If you cannot attend the appointment on the date given you must contact Occupational Health Department on 01642 228482 to rearrange the date. This rearrangement must be made before the original appointment is due to take place or this will be considered as non-attendance. Please be aware if you do not attend the appointment you will be liable to pay the rearranged appointment fee. If you do not complete the health assessment, we will withdraw the offer.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)

As from the 1st December 2012 the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) have merged and are now called the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). CRB checks are now called DBS checks.

This course is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Consequently, it is a condition of the course that you must disclose any convictions, cautions, reprimands or final warnings which would notbe filtered in line with current guidanceas defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974(Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013) by SI 2013 1198). The DBS filtering guidance is available on their website at .

If an offer of a place is made we will require an enhanced DBS disclosure prior to commencing the course. The charge for this is £44.00 payable to Teesside University. As part of the offer you are also required to join the DBS Update Service, the charge for this is £13.00 per year payable to the DBS.

You should be aware that on completion of the course, you are required to declare any convictions, cautions or allegations to the relevant Professional Body prior to becoming registered.

Please note if your application is unsuccessful the sealed envelope containing the Declaration of Criminal Convictions Form will be confidentially shredded.

Funding

Please note that from August 2017 students following a pre-registration midwiferycourse will no longer receive a Department of Health bursary and will be subject to standard University fees. What to expect after the interview

You will be contacted by the University regarding the outcome of the interview.

All offers will be subject to satisfactory references, police check, completed risk assessment process and eligibility for a Department of Health Bursary in addition to any other relevant academic or non-academic conditions.

Please note that the University will not reimburse interview expenses.
