International Skills Training Factsheet

The International Skills Training courses were announced as a new Australian Government initiative in December 2015. This initiative will oversee the development of new training courses specifically designed for offshore international students. These courses aim to address critical competency gaps and skills demands facing the international workforce and the global economy. Additionally, they will provide Australian registered training organisations (RTOs) and multinational businesses the opportunity to support and expand theirglobal operations.

What are the International Skills Training courses?

The International Skills Training courses are a diverse suite of courses being developed by the Australian Government, in partnership with industry, to help meet the global demand for quality skills training, and to address skills shortages across multiple sectors.

There is a growing global demand for skills training that is internationally applicable, with countries seeking to improve their vocational education and training systems (TVET) and workers seeking quality, recognised training. The International Skills Training courses support the international workforce in developing the skills and capacity necessary to meet the aspirations foreconomic growth held across all countries.

The International Skills Training courses are being developed with Australian TVET expertise and will be licensed by the Australian Government for delivery by quality Australian RTOs.

These courses complement the delivery of Australian Qualifications occurring offshore. They offer different and additional educational services tailored for the international context to meet overseas skills trainingand scalability needs.

Australia has invested heavily in ensuring its training system is based on high quality standards and is defined by the skills requirements outlined by industry. This positions Australia well to assist other countries in growing their skills capacity.

How will these courses be delivered?

The courses have been tailored for offshore delivery by registered Australian training organisations, in partnership with local training providers, governments and industry.

The adaptable and flexible design of these courses lends itself to delivery across a range of skills training sectors and industries.

Training providers may deliver the courses using a range of delivery methods, such as face-to-face delivery, online learning or a blended learning approach.
