PUBS & RESTAURANTS

PETTIBONE’S TAVERN $

4 Hartford Road, Simsbury (860) 658-1118

Website:

We can't say enough good things about Pettibone's, as it is simply a wonderful place. With a beautiful tavern (upstairs) and fireside dining downstairs, Pettibone's is one of the better restaurants/taverns in the area. They are consistently a cut above in all the areas one considers when selecting a good place for dinner, and their culinary creations are imaginative, and very, very good. Really good appetizers and raw bar, and the pub menu is perfect. Ask about the Ghost. If we lived close by, Pettibone's could become very habit forming, and it remains one of our favorites of all time. Reservations suggested.

Directions: Head north/northeast out of the campus (rink and most of the campus will be on your right) on Old Farms Road and go 4.9 miles (Old Farms Road becomes Simsbury Road during this stretch and then becomes Hopmeadow Road in Simsbury). FIRST & LAST TAVERN

26 West Main Street (Route 44), Avon (860) 676-2000

Italian cooking traditions last for a reason, and no better place to re-discover that fact than right here. Much more than just excellent pizza, First & Last offers a good variety of absolutely wonderful Italian cuisine, and at very reasonable prices. This place is a very well-kept secret, except from the locals. Full bar, and very good for dinner as well.

Directions: Head north/northeast out of the school (rink and most of the campus will be on your right) on Old Farms Road and go 2.1 miles into town. Turn left onto Albany Turnpike (West Main Street). It's on your right, just before Woodford Avenue.

THE WOOD-N-TAP

1274 Farmington Avenue, Farmington (860) 773-6734

Website:

This is a fun, lively, and pleasant tavern. Surprisingly good food (really good actually), casual atmosphere, and a good beer selection. They have, in addition to their regular menu, a 'This-N-That' menu that is one of the best anywhere for pub food that we have ever seen. We suspect a few well-deserved hockey championships have been celebrated here.

Directions: Head south/southeast (rink and most of the campus will be on your left) on Old Farms Road to the traffic light. Turn right onto Rte. 10 (Waterville Road). Go to the light in Farmington and turn right onto Farmington Avenue. Go approx 1½ miles, and the Wood-N-Tap will be on your right, just past Brickyard Road.

SEASON’S RESTAURANT

At the AVON OLD FARMS HOTEL$

279 Avon Mountain Rd.Avon (860)677-1651

Website:

A great place to stay the night and they offer you a choice of fancy or casual for dinner. The very relaxed, fun, and courteous staff makes you feel welcome time after time. The Pub offers “Lighter Fare”, which simply means less food per serving, while the Season’s Restaurant offers an upscale menu that makes your mouth water.

Do not confuse with the Avon Old Farms Inn, across the street. That Inn has had so many different owners in the last 3 or 4 years that we’ve lost track. Once ownership stabilizes, and word-of-mouth improves, we’ll try it. Until then, we wish the newest owners good luck. Stick with the AVON OLD FARMS HOTEL’s Pub and Season’s Restaurant in the meantime.

Directions: Head north/northeast out of the school (rink will be on your right) on Old Farms Road and go 2.1 miles into town. Turn right onto East Main Street and go 9/10 of a mile. It's on your right, just past the light.
