Welcome –Val Orrell

VO – Opened the meeting during National Patient Participation week 2016 to detail the agenda for today’s meeting. Thanks were given to the steering group and also to the GPs for nominating them.

VO- The speakers for today will be Kath Halliwell from BBD (Bradford Beating Diabetes)

Fund Raising

VO–The PPGhave been raising fundsfor equipment for the surgery and they are
currently raising funds for a paediatric pulse oximeter. These are £140 and so
far they have raised £110.

CCP - Thanked the PPG for their help in raising funds for a paediatric pulse
oximeter, he then showed the group what and adult pulse oximeter looked like andexplained the difference between the two types.

News

EB–Both Windhill and Cliffe Avenue had their CQC inspection on the 1st of March with only 2 weeks’ notice to prepare a practice presentation.
There are 4 ratings Outstanding, good, requires improvement and poor. Both Windhill Green & Cliffe Avenue received an outstanding. This was a great achievement for the practice.

Rowlands the chemist will be moved from its current location into a new one which will be built on the piece of land next to the waiting area. The build will be scheduled for 12 weeks. The chemist will remain independent from the surgery.

EB - Read the contents of an email that had been sent to the CCG. EB explained
how the PPG had been started and VO showed the group a certificate they had
received through this nomination.

Diabetes

CCP– Wants to push yearly diabetes testing as we are currently at 58% and we need to be at 60%.

BBD Presentation by Guest speaker Kath Halliwell

There are two phases to the Bradford Beating Diabetes (BBD) programme:

  • phase one – identifies people at high risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
  • phase two – identifies people at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

People identified as beingat high risk or at risk, will be invited to their GP practice for a blood test. This test will show whether they are at moderate risk, high risk or have already become diabetic.

Carers

CCP - Carers are defined as:...any person, adult or child, who providesunpaid

support to a partner, relative orfriend who couldn’t manage to liveindependently or whose health or wellbeingwould deteriorate without this help. This could be due to frailty, disability orserious health condition, mental ill healthor substance misuse.

Currently we have 1% of carers registered and the national average is 3-4%

All registered carers will be offered flu jabs and regular health checks.

Steering Group

AC – The steering group had its 3rd AGM this morning and they are still looking for 1
person to join the group preferably someone from Baildon. This will be 1 –
1.5 hours 3-4 times a year. Any patient wanting to join the steering group must
have attended PPG meetings for 12 months before applying for a place.
