Michael Conway
Director, Environmental Management and Compliance
Toray Plastics (America), Inc.
50 Belver Ave., North Kingstown, RI 02852
401.667.4501
Mike Conway is responsible for environmental affairs and product stewardship for Toray Plastics (America), Inc. – a manufacturer of polypropylene and polyethylene terephthalate films, and olefin foams.
After obtaining a JD, Mike worked as an environmental and safety professional for over 15 years with Polaroid, International Specialty Products, a specialty chemical manufacturer, and in his current role. He was responsible for compliance at a TSDF and eventually closed the facility; at major sources of air emissions; various wastewater facilities subject to categorical standards; and TSCA. Previous to that, he held various assignments in manufacturing, quality control, and plant engineering. This included operation of wastewater facilities and a power plant. In his community, he was a member of a land trust and the municipal Wetlands Conservation Commission.
In addition to compliance his current focus is on sustainability. Toray has reduced its landfill disposal of solid waste to zero by sending its waste streams to energy recovery and by recycling materials previously sent to landfill. Energy efficiency is very important to Toray which has attacked the low hanging fruit, added a cogeneration unit, and is reviewing the use of wind turbines, solar, and a gasifier at its Rhode Island facility.
Mike holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from Boston University. He received his JD from Suffolk University and is a member of the Massachusetts bar.
