November 14th – 18th

*No School on November 24th or 25th.

Monday

Ø  Reading: Read for 20 minutes. As you are reading, stop every few pages and think about what is happening in your book. If you can talk about it, keep reading. If you forgot, go back and reread.

Ø  Writing: Writers write How-To books to teach others. Tonight, think about something you are really good at and can teach someone else (i.e. how to brush your teeth, how to get ready for school, etc.). Tonight, think of your idea and complete your title page and your introduction page.

Tuesday

Ø  Reading: Read for 20 minutes. Readers become word detectives when reading to solve tricky words. Readers first need to stop when they notice a problem and try to solve the word. Readers use all their strategies to figure out a hard word (look at your Good Habits for Solving Hard Words chart).

Ø  Writing: Continue in the packet from last night. Good writers think about what they will need to have in order to carry out the steps of their how to (i.e. you will need a tooth brush, toothpaste, water and a sink to brush your teeth). Complete that page tonight.

Ø  Math: Worksheet, Complete the Daily Math Review below.

Wednesday

Ø  Reading: Read for 20 minutes. Fill out your reading log. When readers reread a book many times they try to sound more fluently, or smoothly. Tonight reread a book. Use the punctuation to help you add expression.

Ø  Writing: Writers start writing the steps that will teach someone how to do their idea. Writers use sequence words like First, Second, Next, After, etc. Tonight, start writing the steps that teach.

Ø  Math: Worksheet

Thursday

Ø  Reading: Read for 20 minutes. Fill out your reading log. Readers do something at the end of their story. Readers can reread the story, retell the story or find their favorite part of the story and reread it.

Ø  Writing: Writers make sure to include teaching pictures. Tonight, go back to your pages and make sure your picture is teaching your reader how to do each step. Make sure you use labels!

Ø  Math: Worksheet, Complete the Daily Math Review below.

Friday

Ø  Reading: Read for 20 minutes. Fill out your reading log. Tonight read a nonfiction book. Nonfiction readers read to learn. In your HW notebook write down 3 NEW things you learned while reading your book.

Ø  Writing: Writers revise their work. Reread your writing. Does it make sense? If not fix it!

Ø  Science: Worksheet

Ø  Math: Worksheet. Complete the Problem of the Day on the next page.

Problem of the Day: 4 kids were reading in the library. Some more kids came to the library. Now there are 10 kids in the library. How many new kids came to the library?
