NPI Enumeration: An Alternative to EFI
An alternative bulk enumeration process is auto-enumeration which emulates a human applying for NPIs online in an automated fashion.This session explores the details of the auto-enumeration process and presents a case study of the successful enumeration of providers.
Enumeration of a Local Government Hybrid Entity
This session will provide a case study on the process, considerations, and resources utilized by Fairfax County, Virginia throughout its provider Type 1 and Type 2 enumeration compliance efforts.
The participants will be presented an overview of essential subpart enumeration considerations and the conclusions reached by Fairfax County. The presenter will demonstrate the resources assembled to facilitate the individual health care provider’s self enumeration with NPPES.
The enumeration considerations of non-covered health care providers and atypical providers also will be presented. Finally, the presenter will discuss the County’s communication plans with our payers, clearinghouse and medical information system vendors.

This session will describe the current WEDI SNIP NPI draft white paper on NPI Information Exchange, vis-à-vis the pending NPI Dissemination Notice. The purpose of the session is to collect additionalinput about the proposed strategies and approaches for NPI information exchange described inthedraft paper. The purpose of the white paper is to 1) describe the business reasons for conducting NPI information exchanges; 2) identify the various types of NPI Information Exchanges that occur between trading partners; 3) present examples of how organizations and regions are preparing and plan to conduct NPI Information Exchange; 4) identify and discuss business implementation issues related to the implementation of NPI Information Exchange; and 5) identifyandrecommend methods for organizations to conduct NPI Information Exchange.

The industry is locked in the throes of a Catch-22: Payers can't be sure whether their crosswalk algorithms will work with the different NPI subparting scenarios providers utilize; providers are reluctant to enumerate subparts until they know they can continue to rely on accurate reimbursement. What's an industry to do? Communication and outreach are key, but what about actually knowing in advance whether the mutual strategies are compatible? A well-designed testing environment could answer these questions—and expose unanticipated problems -- before either side bets millions on the outcome of their decisions.
