Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome to the new academic year! This Autumnterm will be a very busy and hard-working one for all our new Year Six children.

Numeracy, Reading and Spelling will continue to be set in ability groups. Writing will be taught in mixed ability groups this term. Your child will have regular homework. This will include reading and writing, learning spellings, learning times tables, reinforcing work from Numeracy and Literacy lessons and research for other lessons. Usually, this should not take more than half an hour a night. Please encourage your children to do their homework and talk to them about the work they are covering.

The topics during this term are Revolution and Blood Heart. The first is a history unit with a real emphasis on Victorian Britain including a visit to the Black Country Museum. The second is a science based unit that provides the children with a chance to look at the circulatory system as well as beginning to touch upon the emotional changes that they may begin to experience this year.

Please make sure that children have their PE kits in school on a Monday. In the Autumn term this needs to be an OUTDOOR kit to begin with – as, weather permitting, we will be studying football and netball.

Then, as has been done in previous years, the children will need kit on alternating Friday afternoons as Soccer 2000 take their sessions.

On Monday 18th September at 6.00PM in the KS2 hall, we will be holding a meeting to discuss secondary school transfer. We would like to invite as many people to come to this meeting as possible, as it gives us an opportunity to meet you and discuss any questions that you may have about the coming year.

A number of after school clubs will be running and children will get the opportunity to join these.

Letters will be sent out this term about the Year 6 residential in Kington. Although it is a long time in the future, it is important to start thinking about the finances of this trip as early as possible.

If you are concerned about your child or any aspect of school work, please get in touch with us as soon as possible, so we can work together to sort out any problems.

Prior Warning – 2017 SATs week begins May 14th – Please do NOT book any holidays or appointments for this week as year 6 children must be in school.

All in all, a very busy term, with lots of hard work expected.

Best wishes
