Humanities 103: Story andMeaning

Course Description: Humanities 103 introduces students to the study of literature, art history, and philosophy. The course focuses on story from the perspectives of these disciplines, which complement each other as they reflect on the human enterprise of defining life by telling stories, creating art, and searching for meaning. Students will studyreadings from these disciplinesto not only understand how meaning resides within these texts but also to grapple with their own ways of finding significance within them. A large part of the course will be devoted to helping students develop skills in critical reading, thinking, listening, verbal expression, and writing.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. At least 18 years of age
  2. Reading, writing, and comprehension level of at least grade 8 or Canadian Language Benchmark level 7
  3. Low-Income
  4. Experienced barriers to education
  5. Ready, willing and able to commit to attending all classes, reading all course material, and completing weekly assignments.

Courses take place at St. Mary’s University Campus on Bannister Rd SE which is accessible by a pedestrian bridge over McLeod Trail at the Fish Creek/Lacombe LRT Station.
