Dear Colleague

RE: Traded services – Health and Well-being Team

The current economic climate and changes to Government Funding has resulted in a significant impact on Local Authority Services across Bradford. As a result of these changes, the Health and Well-being Team is no longer able to offer non-chargeable services to the District’s schools. As from 1st April 2013, the Health and Well-being Team will become a Traded Service.

The Health and Well-Being Team (HWB) is responsible for supporting schools and other services in meeting government health and educational strategies. Through consultation, effective planning, partnership working, delivering and monitoring progress, impact can be made around changing health behaviours. The role of the Health and Well-being Team is to provide a framework of activity, support, programmes and projects based on sound models of good practice.

The Team’s priorities are to:

  • Improve health and well-being equalities across the District including levels of: obesity; oral health; teenage pregnancy; relationships and sex education; drugs, tobacco, alcohol and substance misuse.
  • Increase the emotional resilience of children and young people and participation within schools.
  • Raise achievement of all children.
  • Narrow the gap through universal and targeted health and well-being systems.
  • Raise levels of achievement at all key stages for all young parents

The Health and Well-being Team support schools through:

  • Providing guidance and continuing professional development (CPD) relating to PSHE education, health and well-being and spiritual, moral, social and cultural aspects of learning.
  • The Healthy Schools Programme - working with schools to improve the health and well-being of children and young people.
  • A wide range of web based and multi media resources.
  • Specialist consultant support to schools and other services around the areas of PSHE (including relationships and sex education and drugs education), emotional wellbeing, healthy eating and physical activity, sustainable schools and pupil participation.
  • Peer Education Programmes to children and young people.
  • Targeted one to one support for young people identified as at risk from substance misuse issues.
  • Teenage Pregnancy Reintegration work with expectant students and school age parent’s post 16, via an appropriate Individual Education Plan (IEP) in collaboration with the young person, parents and school to maintain their attendance and attainment.

The new pricing structure for April 2013 is enclosed with a list of the services on offer. We recommend the subscription service as a more cost effective way of buying into the service and this will also enable schools to become more efficient in selecting health and well-being priorities for the School Development Plan.

If you would like to discuss how our Team can help your school raise its health and well-being profile or would like more information on any aspect of our service, please feel free to contact Jenny Philpott on 01274 385843 (email at ) or fax 01274 385943 or complete the tear off clip below.

Yours sincerely
