From the President

I would like to welcome you all to Warlingham R.F.C. We are very proud of our 5 pitches and facilities, as well as being home to Hillcrest Netball, Selsdon Cricket and Purley Lacrosse. We are the top local club being in the London 2 league for the last 6 years although this year we have been pushed back to South West where we hope to meet many old friends and make a few new ones. We are especially keen to always be a welcoming and friendly club to everyone.

We run 4 senior sides, a vets and a highly successful junior and mini section, that is all inclusive of ability and age. Our supporters, including Friends of Warlingham, pride themselves on often outnumbering our opponents at away matches and our home crowds will always be welcoming and gracious in victory and defeat. So, we can accommodate anyone of whatever age, inclination, proficiency, colour, creed, nationality, ethnicity, or species.

This last year has been particularly harsh on us with the loss of 4 great characters of our club. David Gray, David Hughes, Jonathan Straker and Nicholas Tweedie will all be found on our President/Vice president lists on page 4, but this is no measure of how important they all were both in their input into the club and their own input at the bar. We sympathise with their families; they leave a big hole in the Club; we will miss them.

We continue to struggle financially having this year acquired a vertidrainer for the pitches so that we do not need to hire the equipment, and have spent another fortune on the ground. However, thanks to the very hard work of our grounds man, Terry Tractor Dersley, we now have pitches to be proud of; nothing like the grassless stinking mud that my generation rolled in and peeled off of our boots at the final whistle. Our thanks must also go to our sponsors who have been very generous to us over the years.

Lastly, but by no means least, I would like to offer the whole club’s most sincere thanks to all the many volunteers that keep us going; the time and effort put in by so many individuals, for no recompense, is always a major source of pride for Warlingham R.F.C.

I regard rugby as a tremendous sport, bringing together all ages and types from all over the world into a social environment. The whole point is to leave Warlingham R.F.C. happier than when you arrived; even if you’re the opposition that has lost.

Clubhouse Hire

You can hire our clubhouse for parties, christenings, funerals and

wedding receptions. The hall accommodates 150 guests sitting down

and 200 for informal events. We can provide catering from our in

house catering company and we can organise discos and assist

with the planning of the event. Charges for hire can be found

below or on our website Preferential rates

for fully paid up members of rugby, netball or cricket sections

are available. (We regret that we cannot accommodate teenage

parties (Strictly No 18 Parties). Only alcohol purchased at the

bar may be consumed on the premises). VAT will be charged where

applicable.
