Are you NHS employed?

NHS to NHS PRO FORMA

Ask your NHS HR dept. to forward a copy of your pro forma to us, to receive access to our Trust. No further checks are necessary and you only require a Letter of Access with our Trust regardless of you research activities. If you are substantively employed by CPFT, please ensure your line manager confirms to us in writing that your research activities are undertaken as part of your current substantive employment.

Are you a medical or masters student?

PLACEMENT AGREEMENTS

If you are a medical student and your research is covered by your study placement agreement with CPFT, please ensure your CPFT placement manager, and academic supervisor confirms this to us in writing. Only compulsory research modules, covered by your agreement with our Trust will be accepted. If you do not fall into this category, you will need to consider the research passport route (below).

For those who are not NHS employed

RESEARCH PASSPPORTS

Where we are not the lead NHS Trust for your study, we will accept scanned copies of your RP. We can accept receipt of your RP and CV via recorded post, but we do not advise you send any other personal identifiable documentation through the post.

REGULATED ACTIVITY

We will further review whether or not you plan on conducting regulated activity within our Trust, via a short ‘tick-box’ questionnaire. This is to ensure the highest standards of NHS patient safety. To get you started you can access this on our R&D webapges:

RESEARCH PASSPORTS APPOINTMENTS WITH R&D

We are available on Tuesday’s between the hours of 1pm and 4.30pm to accept visits. It is best to make an appointment to see us during this period. We are based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in Department S4, click here for a site map:

Please be aware there is limited, to no parking on site, so we suggest those coming to visit, walk, cycle, get a lift, use the bus, or use one of the park and rides either Trumpington or Babraham, for further information visit the Stagecoach website.

On arrivalplease ring the R&D doorbell and wait to be collected. This is for security purposes.

Please ensure you bring with you:

*Your original research passport and all supporting documents.

*Your completed Regulated Activity Checklist – if you have not received one from us prior to your visit, we can go through one with you during your appointment.

**R&D HR (Research Passport) approval can take up to a few weeks to be processed, but we aim to approve within 2 weeksof your visit. **

If you are unsure as to whether or not your activity qualifies as a service evaluation (sometimes called and audit) or whether it constitutes research, our Research Governance Officers can help you explore this.

I am joining a study

CURRENT APPROVED STUDIES

If you are joining an active approved study, please use our reference number in your correspondence (M00.) or at least the REC number if you know it so we can trace and match correctly and speed the process up. A minor amendment may have to be made to the study to reflect your additional details.

This is my own study

ETHICS APPROVAL/R&D APPROVAL

If you are not joining an active CPFT study, you will need to speak with our Research Governance Officers’ in relation to gaining ethics approval and Trust R&D study approval. Enquiries will be allocated to a specific Research Governance Officer, once this has happened you will have a point of contact, who will be able t guide you through the processes and provide advice.
