Intervention plan was implemented from 8-26-13 to 9-23-13. Intervention was: .

4. Summary of Discussion: Jose has made progress with his decoding of longer words. His reading behaviors have changed so that he no longer sits and waits for the teacher to tell him the word, but now instead he tries "chunking" the word using word families. Unfortunately, he doesn't always make sure the word he says makes sense. He is currently an independent 20/instructional 24. His progress needs to be accelerated to make grade level expectations.

Joan Smarts found out via a phone call to his previous school that he was in an intervention program, not a speech program as his mother thought. We will continue his current intervention but also layer in an emphasis on reading to make sense.

Strategic intervention plan: Jose will learn the 37 word families and work on the "Compare/Contrast" intervention from the RTI online notebook as well as building and writing words using these word families. He will spend 10 minutes working on these word family activities and then an additional 10 minutes reading leveled books at his instructional level with a focus on recognizing word families in the words he has difficulty with. During this reading, Jose will be prompted with "Does that make sense?" both when it does and when it doesn't make sense, in order to encourage independent self-monitoring behaviors.
