Voice Carry Over (VCO)

Dial 1-877-877-1474 or 7-1-1

Voice Carry Over (VCO) allows deaf or hard-of-hearing users to speak directly to a hearing person and receive responses in text from a Wyoming Relay operator. If a late-deafened person has difficulty hearing over the phone, VCO is a great communication solution for them.

When the hearing person speaks to a VCO user, a relay operator will serve as the VCO user's "ears" and type everything said to the VCO user on a TTY or text display.

When the VCO user dials 1-877-877-1474, their calls are automatically handled by a Wyoming Relay operator who specializes in all types of VCO calls, such as VCO to Voice, VCO to VCO, VCO to TTY, or 2-Line VCO. With this service, the VCO user no longer has to specify their call type to the relay operator.

VCO with Privacyis an availablefeature which is similar to the standard VCO feature. However, the relay operator will not hear the VCO user's voice and only types the hearing person's responses back to the VCO user. Request privacy by voicing or typing to the operator "Privacy ON."

7-1-1 dialing is available for VCO users; however, if you dial 7-1-1 you will either need to notify the relay operator that you are making a VCO call, or you can contact Wyoming Relay Customer Service at 1-888-694-4450 to set-up a customer profileto indicate that you want your calls to automatically connect in VCO mode.

“GA” (“Go Ahead”) is a term used in relay calls for turn-taking purposes. “GA” ensures that the relay user and the standard telephone user do not respond at the same time. When you see “GA,” you know it is your turn to talk. The same is true for the relay operator (before and after the call) and the standard telephone user, who will wait to reply until you type “GA.”
