Power for Daily Living

Acts 1:5
For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.

What is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?

•It began on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came upon believers (see Acts 2:1-4)

•Since that day, every believer receives the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation

–1 Corinthians 12:13
For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.

–It is never repeated in the life of a Christian

•We do not need to pray for the baptism of the Holy Spirit

–There is not a “second blessing” that comes later in the Christian walk that is accompanied by the gift of tongues

What is the result of being baptized with the Holy Spirit?

Acts 1:8a
You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you.

•Baptism of the Spirit initiates the indwelling of the Holy Spirit
in a Christian

–1 Corinthians 6:19
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?

•The Holy Spirit lives in every Christian

•The Holy Spirit lives in only Christians

–Non-believers may be influenced by the Holy Spirit, but He does not live in them

•The Holy Spirit’s presence with a believer is permanent

–John 14:16
I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever.

–The Spirit does not come and go

–His presence is not based on feeling, situations or emotions

What does the Indwelling Holy Spirit enable me to do?

•To lead people to know Jesus and begin a relationship with Him

–Acts 4:33
And with great power the apostles were giving testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and abundant grace was upon them all.

•To anticipate the future that God has designed

–Romans 15:13
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

•To experience real freedom

–2 Corinthians 3:17
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

•He provides the power to do everything that God asks you to do

–God will not ask you to do something which He will not empower you to do

–Ephesians 3:16
That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man.
