Family Therapy Context
Dr. Nancy Boyd-Franklin is a Distinguished Professor at Rutgers University in the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology. She is the author of numerous professional articles and chapters and six books including: Black Families in Therapy: Understanding the African American Experience; Children, Families and HIV/AIDS; Reaching Out in Family Therapy: Home-based, School and Community Interventions; and Boys Into Men: Raising Our African American Teenage Sons with Dr. A.J. Franklin. Her latest book, Therapy in the Real World: Effective Treatments for Challenging Problems, was published by Guilford Press in June, 2013. Dr. Boyd-Franklin has received an Honorary Doctorate from the Phillips Graduate Institute, and awards for her outstanding contributions to the field from the Association of Black Psychologists, Divisions 45 and 43 of the American Psychological Association, the Association of Black Social Workers, the American Psychiatric Association, and the American Family Therapy Academy.
The Learning Objectives for this conference are:
1. Participants will gain knowledge about how to identify and utilize the cultural strengths of Black Families in psychotherapy.
2. Participants willunderstand the process of engaging extended family members in treatment and the role of spirituality in the lives of many of these families.
3. Participants will learn to effectively use themselves in the engagement of Black couples and families in cross-cultural psychotherapy.
4. Participants will learn how to utilize the Multisystems Model in treatment /

Dr. Nancy Boyd-Franklin est professeure distinguée d'études de troisième cycle au département de psychologie appliquée et professionnelle de l'Université de Rutgers. Elle est auteure de plusieurs articles et chapitres professionnelles ainsi que de 6 livres dont: Black Families in Therapy: Understanding the African American Experience; Children, Families and HIV/AIDS; Reaching Out in Family Therapy: Home-based, School and Community Interventions; et Boys Into Men: Raising Our African American Teenage Sons with Dr. A.J. Franklin. Son plus récent livre, Therapy in the Real World: Effective Treatments for Challenging Problems, fut publié par Guilford Press en Juin, 2013. Dr. Boyd-Franklin a été nommée docteur honoris causa du Phillips Graduate Institute.
