Online Registration starts – ICSA 2015

ICSA Registration from July 20th on / Conference focusing on the 3D Audio Production Chain

Graz, Austria, July 2015:Sounds are everywhere, to our right and left, front and back, above and below us – and all conceivable positions in between. How can we capture and reproduce this hearing impression as best as possible? Since moving on from mono recordings, this question has been at the heart of sound engineering.

For two and a half days, you will have the opportunity to grapple with this question in depth. The third ICSA conference (International Conference on Spatial Audio) which is initiated by the VDT in cooperation with the Institute for Electronical Musicand Acoustics (IEM) atthe University for Musicand Performing Arts Graz, deals exclusively with three-dimensional production and playback. This year's motto, "The 3D Audio Production Chain," draws upon scientific and practical aspects, and covers technical and artistic topics.

The ICSA is known for offering participants rare opportunities to become acquainted with the theory and practice of different approaches to 3D recording and production, such as Surround Sound with Height, Wave Field Synthesis and Ambisonics, by way of audio examples. Spatial audio projects can be heard on location in a conventional 5.1 surround setting, as well as expanded formats up to 9.1 and 3D Higher Order Ambisonics systems with more than 25 loudspeakers. The event's highlight is an Ambisonics concert, which an OB truck will record and transmit binaurally using terrestrial, as well as in 5.1 via satellite.

The extensive program features workshops, lectures and panel discussions, which will have a truly exclusive setting with ideal room acoustics in the Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics (IEM) at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria. A minimum of three spatial audio demonstration rooms and an exhibition area contribute the extremely hands-on aspect of the conference.

The conference is presided over by Alois Sontacchi (IEM), Franz Zotter (IEM), Matthias Frank (IEM), Hannes Pomberger (IEM) and Günther Theile (VDT). The participation fee is EUR 450 including catering. VDT members have access to a discounted rate of EUR 320. Additional discounts are available for students. The online registration starts on July 20th and is open until September 13th. Hotel reservations are available through the Graz Convention Bureau. The language of the conference is English.
