Dear Parents/Guardians:
As your child enters grade two in September, he/she will also begin a special year in their faith journey. Those children who have been baptized in the Roman Catholic Faith will be invited to prepare for their First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Sacraments are important moments in the lives of any young person and the Church wants to do the best it can to prepare children and their parents for these moments of grace.
It is with great joy and anticipation that St. Michael’s Parish looks forward to working closely in partnership with our feeder schools and especially you, the parents, to provide this preparation. As your child’s first and foremost teacher of the faith, your help and support are crucial! We recognize and respect that not all grade two students have been baptized, however, they will certainly still be included in the lessons we will provide in their classroom as part of their religious education curriculum.
If you plan to have your child receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Sacrament of Holy Communion at St. Michael’s Parish, you will be required to submit a copy of their baptismal certificate and completed registration form to the parish office byJuly 7,2017. To register online, please visit Registration opens May 1, 2017.
(Please note that if the required papers are not submitted to our office by the due date, your child will have to wait until the Fall of 2018to celebrate their sacraments). A copy of Baptismal Certificate is required before your child is able to receive these sacraments. Baptismal certificates can be obtained by contacting the parish in which the baptism took place.
If your child has not been baptized or has been baptized in another Christian denomination and you or your child would like to become Catholic, please contact Yana Adkinson at 519-433-6689 x 203 or email
There will be a First Reconciliation and First Communion Parent Information Meetings during school year (you will be contacted with dates and times via email in the summer). It is of the outmost importance that at least one of the
parents attend both meetings since the preparation program will be explained and you will receive the preparation booklets to do with your child at home. At the time of the meeting, you will be able to sign up for the dates when your child will receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion.
To help cover the cost of First Reconciliation and First Communion materials, we ask that a fee of $25.00 be submitted along with your registration form (please, let our office know if this is a financial hardship and we will cover the cost of the booklets). This will cover two wonderful resource books as well as materials given to the children during the year as part of the classroom program.
If you require further information or if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call Parish Office at 519-433-6689. Our prayers are with you and your family as you continue to grow together in faith. May God’s richest blessings be with you!
In Christ,
St. Michael’s Pastoral Team,
