▪ the subjunctive

Grading for CHS will follow the standard scale as noted in the general French syllabus.

Those students who elect to take the UW 103 course will also receive a grade from the University of Washington. This grade will be reported according to the Department on Romance Languages & Literature grading scale.

The grades in French 7-8 / UW 103 will be weighted as follows:

25% class work, projects & compositions

20% oral participation & oral testing

55% Assessment (quizzes, tests, final exams)

This class will be conducted entirely in French. It is my expectation that all communication within the classroom be conducted in the target language. Students will be assessed on a monthly basis according to their level of oral communication in the classroom. There will also be periodic as well as cumulative oral exams (interviews) and presentations.

There will be a minimum of four compositions, which will be done in-class, with a second draft to be completed at home. For the in-class portion of the composition, students will not be allowed to use supplementary resources (such as books, dictionaries, or on-line resources). For the take-home rewrite, students should not use automated translation engines from the internet, nor can they ask a tutor to look over their compositions before turning them in. Should a student be suspected to have received outside help, he/she will be given a zero for the correction portion of the grade.
