UNIVERSITY TEACHING PRIZES 2018

This form should be used for all prize applications. Completed applications should be no more than 5 sides of A4 in total; where additional material is submitted it will not be considered by selection panels. Please read the guidance document on the prizes carefully and ensure that you are applying for the appropriate prize. Individual members of staff may not apply for more than one prize in any one year. The Vice-Chancellor, at a lunchtime ceremony, will award the prizes on Wednesday 3rd October 2018.

Application Criteria

Criterion 1: Excellence in Teaching and/or Supporting Learning

Applicants are expected to provide evidence of enhancing and/or transforming the student learning experience proportionate with their context. Key to this criterion is being able to demonstrate a transformative impact on their students.

This could be demonstrated by providing evidence of:

• Stimulating students’ curiosity and interest in ways which inspire a commitment to learning

• Organising and presenting high quality resources in coherent and imaginative ways which in turn clearly enhance students’ learning

• Pedagogical innovation, which has a demonstrable positive impact on student learning

• Recognising and actively supporting the full diversity of student learning needs

Criterion 2: Influencing Practice to Promote Excellence in Learning and Teaching

Applicants are expected to provide evidence of their influence on learning and teaching excellence within their School/Faculty or more broadly across the institution. Applicants may also draw upon evidence of working with colleagues to enhance learning and teaching excellence. This criterion moves applicants into demonstrating engagement in furthering learning and teaching excellence beyond their immediate role/s.

This could be demonstrated by providing evidence of:

• Identifying specific needs within their discipline, department, or institution, and changing practice to specifically address them

• Contributing to school/faculty/institutional/national initiatives to facilitate and improve student learning

• Specific contributions to significant improvements in student learning

• Positively enhancing the practice of colleagues to improve student learning
