Strood Town District Friends of Guiding

Annual Report 2012

The following is a report of the Annual General Meeting of Strood Town Friends of Guiding which took place on Monday 12th November 2012

Chairman’s Report

What a Year! A great one for our girls to remember in years to come with the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations and London Olympics with the Olympic Torch coming to Medway. I hope some of you were able to see it.

Strood Town Friends of Guiding gave every Strood Town Guiding Member a memento of a Jubilee Bear.

In July the Rangers arranged an Appreciation Party for Senior Members to say thank you for all the hard work they do in running district units and organising events for Rainbows, Brownies and Guides in Strood. The Friends of Guiding were happy to add their support and thanks by helping the Rangers with a grant for the event.

We have continued to support newly qualified guiders with a uniform set up grant and established guiders with a small yearly donation to supplement their uniforms.

We decided to end our year with a Quiz Night as opposed to the Christmas Fair we have organised in the past. The evening was a success and we hope to arrange this again in 2013.

End of year accounts have been presented by our treasurer, Roger Allen, and are looking comfortable. I take this opportunity of thanking him for his efficient book-keeping.

Sadly we say goodbye to a long serving committee member and Guiding supporter, Rita Egan. She will be greatly missed and I thank her for all her past support but hope that we may call on her for a delicious cup of tea at organised events in the future.

Our Christmas Raffle of a Bear, who had been visiting units to sell his tickets during the Autumn Term, was won by Kim Reynolds of 8th Brownies.

Commissioner’s Report

There was no Commissioners Report available but I know girls have been very busy with Pack Holidays and camps during the year.

Treasurer’s Report

Report for the Financial Year from 01 November 2011 to 31 October 2012
We started the year with a credit balance of £1,685.84 and raised £206.30 from our Christmas Bazaar and £134.03 from our Christmas Draw, which were both held in November 2011. These are normally our main sources of income but in recent years the net amounts received have tended to decline, so we decided not to hold similar events in 2012, but to hold a Quiz Night instead. The Quiz Night was duly held in October 2012 and raised a net amount of £212.64. The quiz was well received and consideration will be given to holding another one in 2013. We again asked parents for voluntary subscriptions of £1 per family, which raised £62.00 (compared to £64.00 for the previous year).
During the 2011/2012 financial year we continued to provide financial assistance to members of Girlguiding UK and their families, within the Strood Town District. We purchased special Jubilee bears for every girl within the district, as a memento of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, amounting to £295.75. We also gave a donation of £100.00 to The Strood Town Rangers, to enable them to host a guiders appreciation party in summer 2012. We also continued to provide our guiders with grants towards the cost of their uniforms (£204.50, compared to £278.00) for the previous year.
At the close of the year our credit balance was £1746.79. Of this, £433.50 is the total set aside to satisfy future uniform grant requests, leaving a credit balance of £1313.29 available for use in the coming financial year starting on 01 November 2012.
