The Division of Human Nutrition in the Department of Human Biology is a growing and dynamic group involved in the professional training of dietitians at Honours level, offering Masters and PhD programmes in nutrition or dietetics, research and nutrition policy development. The Division takes responsibility for dissemination of science based nutrition information to qualified health professionals and the lay public. We also contribute to the training of undergraduates in other programmes in the Faculty of Health Sciences. The integration of nutrition and dietetics with relevant disciplines across the faculty is an important focus of the Division.

The University of Cape Town invites applications for a full time position at the level of Senior Lecturer in the Division of Human Nutrition for appointment as soon as possible.

Requirements:

·  PhD in nutrition/dietetics or related health science.

·  Current registration as a dietitian with the HPCSA.

·  Track record of university level teaching in nutrition/dietetics and course administration.

·  Record of successful postgraduate student supervision at least at Masters’level.

·  Record of successful grant applications and research publications.

·  Management and leadership experience.

Recommendations:

·  Record of teaching on post-graduate courses.

·  Record of successful PhD student supervision.

·  NRF rating.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the following:

·  Teaching normal and/or community and/or clinical nutrition and/or research theory at honours level, as well as teaching on nutrition related topics in other health science programmes at undergraduate level.

·  Facilitation/supervision and/or coordination of professional practice in dietetics, seminars, tutorials and journal clubs.

·  Supervision of student research projects at Honours’, Masters’ and PhD level.

·  Research grant application, execution and publication, as well as active involvement in peer review of research.

·  Provide academic leadership in area of expertise.

·  Mentorship of staff to contribute to teaching and research excellence.

·  Administrative/management/leadership tasks in the Division, Department and Faculty.

·  Engagement with the Department of Health, NGOs, media and general public on nutrition policy, nutrition interventions and dissemination of evidence based nutrition information.

The annual remuneration package, including benefits for 2014 at Senior Lecturer level is R595 903.
