Analyze Events
Analyze the anecdotes in the selection to explain the events that lead to Gary Paulsen to hunt with an arrow.
P: There are anecdotes in the selection to explain why Gary Paulsen began to hunt with an arrow.
E: According to the text, Gary states “There is nothing worse than what the sounds of a gun does to the woods.” Also, Gary states that “With a bow there is silence, or near silence—only the soft twang of the string when released—and the purity of the forest remain.”
E: This shows that Gary did not like the way the forest sounded and was disrupted when a gun went off. He preferred the way a bow was silent and didn’t change the forest.
L: In conclusion, there were a couple of events that lead Mr. Paulsen to hunt with an arrow.
