General Description: This course exposes students to an integrated set of skills needed in the areas of organizational leadership, communication, marketing and strategy. These skills are foundational to an Informatics professional’s understanding of and ability to formulate and communicate business needs and thereby more effectively manage projects, departments and organizations. Subject matter will include, but not be limited to, leadership skills, managing teams and groups of professionals, market segmentation, product positioning, external and internal analysis of the firm, long-range planning, and managing by objectives.
Learning Objectives: The objectives of this course are:
ü Demonstrated ability to assess the role of information systems in positioning and implementation of a competitive strategy and in developing and leveraging IS resources.
ü Demonstrate ability to evaluate and assess the role of information systems in developing plans for corporate branding, product positioning and customer segmentation.
ü Demonstrate ability to apply behavior and leadership principles that promote learning and development of the individual, team members, department personnel and organizations.

MBI 620 Course Grading:
Six on-line quizzes will be given assessing your knowledge of the course lecture and textbook material throughout the semester (drop the lowest quiz score above 50 points – 5 will count) and will have equal weight at 100 points each for a total of 500 points. Five Business portfolio projects will be assigned @ 50 points each for a total of 250 points. The final business project is worth 250 points

Research: From time to time you may be asked to participate in research studies conducted by other students or faculty. Generally, this data is gathered through a questionnaire and individuals will not be specifically identified. All of these studies will have an appropriate learning context for the class; None will be psychological or dangerous in nature. Everyone will be debriefed on the purpose of the study and anyone that wishes may have copies of the results.
Classroom Etiquette: This is a college- level class. So, a couple of basic rules of etiquette should be observed:
· Show up on time; if you arrive late, please sit in the rear of the room and minimize the noise as you enter
· PLEASE, TURN OFF ALL CELLPHONES; If you are expecting an important call, please advise me at the beginning of class and sit in the back of the room close to the door. If you phone rings, leave the room before answering. I reserve the right to answer any cell phone that rings in the middle of class.
· Please feel free to ask questions in the class, however, side conversations with other students, while they may be about the class, get noisy and detract from the class. Direct your questions to me so that the whole class can benefit.
