U8, U9 & U10 Tournament Rules
GAME RULES: / NF High School rules will be used, with the following age specific rules, and the other Tournament Rules- Continuous batting order may be used.
- There will be no leading off. There will be NO warning from the umpire, the runner will be called out by the umpire. U8 will receive one warning per team per game before being called out.
- U8 and U9 base runner may leave the base only after the pitched ball has crossed the plate. Runner’s may attempt to steal only at this point.
- For U10 the runner may leave a base only after the ball leaves the pitchers hand.
- Runners may advance on a passed ball or wild pitch.
- The batter is out on a third strike whether the catcher controls the ball or not.
- The Infield-Fly rule is NOTin effect for U8.
- The Infield-Fly rule IS in effect for U9 and U10.
- For U8, a runner may not steal home unless a defensive play is attempted on him or any other runner. A runner attempting to steal home without a play being attempted will be sent back to 3rdbase.
- No Advancement on Walks. On walks, in the U8, U9 and U10 divisions, the Batter/Runner (B/R) may not advance to second base if the catcher returns the ball directly to the pitcher and the pitcher is on the rubber. The B/R is only protected, by virtue of the walk, to first base. If the B/R is off the base or running to second while the pitcher has the ball and is on the rubber, the B/R will be called out. If there is a play on another runner or there is a pass ball, then the ball is live and the B/R and all other runners may advance at their own risk.
- A Courtesy Runner maybe used for either the Pitcher or Catcher, once they have reached base, no matter how many outs there are, but the Catcher must be run for with two outs. If it is noticed that the Catcher is on base with two outs, the umpire will stop play and have a runner substitute for the Catcher. The Courtesy Runner is to be the last player to make an out, if continuous batting order is being used. If not, a bench player, not in the game, should be used.
- The “Slash” Bunt is prohibited. If a player attempts a “Slash” Bunt, the player, regardless if the attempt is fair or foul, will be called out by the umpire.
