in loving memory of May, Ray & Bill Moyer,

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

WE APPROACH GOD

♪ *PROCESSIONAL HYMN (VU 651)

Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah

CALL TO WORSHIP:

We gather as a community, remembering the sadness and injustice of war. Holding great sacrifice alongside the words of Jesus:

“All they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.”

We gather as a community called to righteousness, holding that call alongside the words of Jesus:

“Judge not, and you shall not be judged.”

We gather as a people who must defend the weak, but we hold that demand alongside the words of Jesus:

“He who is without sin, cast the first stone.”

We are ready to fight for what is right if we must, but we hold that readiness alongside the words of Jesus:

“Whoever strikes your right cheek, turn to him the other.”

Let us grieve and remember, and live into Christ’s invitation:

“As you would have others do to you, do to them likewise.”

PRAYER OF CONFESSION: God of Peace, violence and hatred have so often overwhelmed our world. Today we remember and repent as we acknowledge that—even in our own lives—hatred sometimes obscures love, and violence sometimes overcomes peace…

(A moment of silence for personal confession) Heal us, O God of renewal, assist us as we work for peace in

our homes, our community, our church, and our world.

SUNG RESPONSE: (MV 115)

Behold,(behold), behold,(behold),

I make all things new,

Beginning with you and starting from today.

Behold, (behold) behold,(behold),

I make all things new,

My promise is true, for I am Christ the way. (repeat)

In the harvests we are sharing, God’s will is done.

For the harvests of the Spirit, thanks be to God.
