Northern width course — the largest infrastructure project for all history of Yamal. Its major part — port of Sabett which after the end of construction becomes the universal terminal opening access to the Northern Sea Route to industrial regions of Russia.

The northern width course — is the project of a railway line which will connect station Ob the Northern railroad to Korotchayevo's station of the Sverdlovsk railroad. The most part of the new direction will pass through the territory of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area, and on it freights from industrial regions can be delivered to the Arctic port of Sabett under construction.

Construction of port of Sabett — part of a comprehensive plan of development of liquefied natural gas production of "Yamal LNG" realized by the Novatek company. This project assumes construction of capacities for production to 16,5 million tons of the liquefied gas a year. The raw materials will be got on developed Southern Tambeyskom a field. Input in a system of the first stage of production is planned for 2017.

In September, 2012, during visit of the president Vladimir Putin to Yamal, the SShH project it was presented to the head of state and I was highly appreciated from it. Mister Putin noted unique a geographical position of Yamal, allowing to transport freights both to the Pacific Rim countries, and to Europe and North America.

"Already today we consider Sabett's port not only as монопорт for LNG transportation — the governor of Yamal Dmitry Kobylkin speaks. — Sabetta can be used for any cargo transportation, providing needs of the neighboring regions for export. As the multipurpose terminal, opening to all territories of Russia of the Northern Sea Route collar. For all country it is new opportunities to open additional resources for achievement of strategic state tasks in the Arctic. Both it is very necessary for Yamal, and business that the Northern width course was constructed during industrial development of the peninsula of Yamal. It considerably will reduce expenses and, respectively, will increase profit of the companies. It will accelerate payback of projects that is very important because in them there is also a foreign participation, and, certainly, will accelerate social development of the region".

According to Leonid Mikhelson, the chairman of the board of "Novatek", it is necessary to build the Northern width course as its company faced logistic problems already at a starting stage of construction of LNG plant: terms of delivery of the equipment and export of finished goods and transportation cost from different objects of the company would be optimum in the presence of the railroad.

The Russian Railway lays a way

Today 62% of world freght traffic are provided with sea transport, but a share of Russia in this volume more than modest — only 6%. On the Northern width course in the federal center lay hopes, expecting to turn it into alternative to a transportation of freights through the Suez Canal. In Ministry of Transport count that in six years in alternative to a transportation of freights through the Suez Canal.
