Job Title / Law Teacher
Reporting to / Deputy Academic Director
Purpose of Role /
  • To provide subject leadership as agreed with the Academic Director.
  • To lead the development of learning materials in designated areas of specialism.
  • To teach workplace learners/ apprentices by interactive webinar, face-to-face in-house or at CLS venues, and provide learning support by telephone.
  • To provide teaching and marking support with professional skills units.
  • To promote a good working relationship with legal apprentices, the CLS team and employers
  • To provide academic, pastoral and study support to students.

Key Areas of Responsibility /
  • Be responsible for the development of learning materials in designated areas of specialism.
  • Liaise with the E-learning Manager and E-learning technician to develop interactive and engaging online learning resources.
  • Be responsible for the successful delivery of contenton designated CILEx unitsat Level 3 and Level 6 including teaching at external venues and by webinar, marking and occasional weekend revision sessions.
  • Induct learners using standard CLS induction methodology and materials
  • Create course study planners using CLS’s standard template for learners.
  • Ensure timely progresson knowledge units.
  • Conduct legal skills workshops for learners using standard CLS materials, which you will also help develop and enhance.
  • Support learners with skills assignment submissions.
  • Mark formative and summative skills submissions in line with CLS and CILEx marking requirements.
  • Provide the Apprenticeship Manager with regular updates on learner engagement and progress on the technical units.
  • Using CLS learning resources and your experience of legal practice, provide learning support to help prepare the apprentices for the synoptic end point assessment.
  • Deal with learners’ queries by e-mail, telephone or via the forums on the CLS Student Area in designated areas of law and/or legal practice.
  • Respond as directed by CLS to any internal and external quality assurance requirements (e.g. Ofsted).
  • Alert the Director of Business & Apprenticeships to any further opportunities to deliver training within the client organisation.
  • Attend CLSor other external venues for meetings as required.
  • Undertake any other duties of a similar level and responsibility as may be required from time to time, which may involve supporting non-apprenticeship learners studying at the same level.

Knowledge to be acquired /
  • Knowledge of legal apprenticeships
  • Knowledge of CILEx qualification including qualifying employment
  • CILEx’s CPD requirements
  • Use of OneFile and VLE (Moodle)

Customer Service /
  • Deliver a high level of customer service in both written and verbal communication
  • Deliver customer service in line with Customer Service Standards

Other Areas /
  • Undertake training consistent with developing skills relevant to those duties and responsibilities of the role.
  • Undertake any other duties of a similar level and responsibility as may be required from time to time.

Hours of work / Flexibility is required and will be in agreement with the Deputy Apprenticeship Director, but may be subject to change in accordance with business needs.Telephone support one or two evenings per week and occasional weekend working will be required. Time off in lieu will be given.
Place of work / Based at home with requirement to travel to regional centre for teaching purposes (Birmingham, Bristol, London or Manchester) and to designated venues for team meetings
Terms of employment / A driving licence and car are essential for this role.Travel expenses will be reimbursed at HMRC rates.
Person Specification
Qualifications Skills and Knowledge
Essential / Law graduate, CILEx qualifications, solicitor, barrister
Experience of teaching atCILEx Level 3(or A level Law) and Level 6.
A minimum of two years’ legal practice experience in any area.
Excellent oral clarity & written communication skills.
Capable of organising and prioritising own workload.
Effective finisher completer, demonstrating attention to detail.
Credible with students and training managers.
Ability to empathise with students of all ages and from a variety of backgrounds.
Demonstrable commitment to promoting the welfare of learners.
Ability to cultivate good relationships with staff and external contacts.
Ability to contribute to the creation of high quality e-learning resources.
IT literate- must be comfortable with e-learning and use of e-learning platforms.
Clean driving licence and car owner.
Able to demonstrate an understanding of customer service excellence.
Desirable / A teaching qualification
A knowledge of latest trends in the education and legal sectors
Experience of student counselling
Experience of using e-learning in law (Onefile/Moodle)
Based in Birmingham, Bristol, London or Manchester
