THE SHARON “CHRISTA” McAULIFFE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Sponsored by the Ketchikan Campus Student Council

General Information and Candidacy Eligibility

1. One scholarship, in the amount of $500, shall be awarded per semester for use at the Ketchikan campus of the University of Alaska Southeast.

2. The scholarship shall be used solely for educational purposes.

3. The candidate must meet the following qualifications, students must:

1) be enrolled as a degree-seeking student,

2) be at least a half-time student (enrolled or planning to enroll for six or more credit hours),

3) be enrolled in at least 3 credits at UAS Ketchikan campus, and

4) be a resident of Ketchikan.

4. The scholarship shall be awarded upon the completion of the Scholarship Committee process.

a. Recipient of the scholarship shall maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.5

b. Recipients who do not complete 6 credits within the allotted time period may be required to pay back a prorated portion of the scholarship to USUASK. Extensions for the purpose of completing an incomplete must be requested of the student council in writing before the end of the semester.

General Instructions

Applications must be dated and signed by the applicant. Awards will not be granted to the same student in two consecutive semesters. Students are only eligible to receive this award twice.

Required Submissions

1.   Completed application (use additional paper if necessary).

2.   A statement of no more than 200 words summarizing your activities, accomplishments, needs and objectives which you believe qualify you for the scholarship.

3.   Two brief letters of recommendation from responsible persons not related to you.

4.   A current UAS transcript (unofficial is fine).

5.   Any other information that you feel will be helpful in judging your worthiness for this scholarship.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

·  I understand that if given any award under this scholarship all applications and supporting information including publicity become the property of the Ketchikan Campus student council (USUAS Ketchikan), and they shall have discretionary authority in all matters pertaining to the award.

·  I understand that this award may be taxable in the United States.

·  I certify that the information in this application is complete and accurate to the best of my knowledge, and I will notify the Scholarship Committee if there is any change.
