EXCELLENCE AWARD

The Rollie Graves Technology Excellence Award, established in 1993, is sponsored by Douglas Graves (son) and Diane Graves Smith (daughter, 71), and is awarded annually to the faculty member who best uses technology to enhance learning, and to the administrator/staff person who best uses technology to improve the quality of his/her job.

The purpose of the grants is to recognize innovative and effective uses of technology by faculty and administrators/staff to enhance learning and improve job performance. The Faculty Development Committee will evaluate the applications according to criteria, such as whether the nominee’s use of technology does the following:

Faculty nominees:

1.enhances student learning;

2.enhances the joy of learning;

3.applies classroom leaning;

4.involves innovative teaching methodology.

Administrators/Staff

1.Enhances the quality of their job

2.Enhances the performance of their job

3.Involves innovative methodology during job performance

Every member of the faculty and administrators/staff of Georgetown College is eligible for the award. Each award will be a $1,500 cash award and will be presented at the annual faculty/staff banquet in the spring. Any faculty and administrators/staff of Georgetown College may nominate one person. Nominators of faculty should write a Letter of Application to the Faculty Development Committee (in care of the Provost’s Office) naming the nominee. The Faculty Development Committee will review applications and forward its recommendation to the President during the first week of April. Letters of Application are forwarded to the Faculty Development Committee, in care of the Provost/Dean of the College by April 9.

If a member of the Faculty Development Committee is nominated for the award, an alternate committee member from the appropriate division will serve. An award recipient may not be eligible again until three years have elapsed. If in any year a recipient is not named, the award for that year will become a part of the corpus of the Graves Fund.

Members of the Faculty Development Committee who serve as either nominators or nominees for any award must excuse themselves from the committee’s deliberations and ask that their substitute participate.
