BOARD OF ADVISORS GUIDELINES

Reverse Logistics Association’s (RLA) Board of Advisors (BOA) is comprised of 10-15 industry professionals with a global management expertise in Reverse Logistics. RLA receives direction and council from the BOA collectively and taps their broad background of experience in the Reverse Logistics Process.

All the members are veterans of their industry or the reverse logistics process and have a working relationship with RLA. The BOA has a professional interest in participating, to build and support RLA and develop relationships between third party service providers (3PSPs), Manufacturers & Retailers.

  • The BOA meets in a formal setting 2-3 times a year. At these meetings the BOA comes prepared to discuss changes within the industries and supply chain processes that might concern RLA. Reports are give on the following:
  • Overviews of the RLA Industry/Focus Committees
  • Education services on "best practices"
  • RLA Conference & Expos progress
  • Seminars and Workshop progress
  • Reports are made on any changes and challenges since the last meeting.
  • RLA Staff present progress made on these assignments;
  • RL Quote (RFI/RFQ program)
  • Sales & Marketing
  • Event Management
  • RL Magazine
  • The latest market research on the Reverse Logistics process.
  • Request to announce new services from RLA.
  • These meetings last approximately 3 hours and are capped off with a “business golf tournament” (9 holes) and an evening reception and dinner.

The BOA assists the RLA management team in staying current on the RLProcess through reports and suggestions for improvement in RLA services and eventsincluding Conferences, Seminars and Workshops.

The term of serving on the BOA is typically 2-3 years.

Listed are some of the duties of BOA:

  • Promote RLA at all other Reverse Logistics speaking engagements;
  • Show RLA web site,
  • State your affiliation with RLA
  • Distribute RL Magazine to those in attendance
  • Provide Speakers for RLA events
  • Nominate Speakers for RLA events (help secure keynote speakers)
  • Recommend topics for RLA events
  • Hosting Facility Tours at your operations
  • Promote RL Quote for Outsourcing of Services
  • Promote the VIP Voucher Program

In other words, we want our Board to evangelize RLA to the world!

RLA BOA members are recruited from the following disciplines/industries;

  • 3rd Party Logistics providers (with repair services)
  • 3rd Party Service Providers (including EMEA, APAC & the Americas)
  • Contract Manufacturers (with repair services)
  • OEM, ODM, Branded and Retail companies (including EMEA, APAC & the Americas)
  • IT Management Software & Help Desk Companies
  • Trade show and Event Management Professionals
  • Academic Professionals from Universities having an RL Study Program or RL Research

For your service to RLA, and since we do not provide any monetary support (other than travel & hotel stay), while attending BOA meetings, we offersome token, but helpfulbenefits for doing so:

The BOA is the steering committee for strategic business direction of RLA, so this role is very similar to Board level without having fiduciary responsibilities.

BOARD OF ADVISORS PROFILES

1. Dan Gilbert, Vice President - Reverse Logistics - Cisco Systems, Inc.,

Dan Gilbert is Vice President of Worldwide Reverse Logistics at Cisco Systems, Inc. His charter when joining Cisco in 2005 was to define and create a world-class reverse logistics organization. Dan’s global team is responsible for driving excellence in product recovery, receiving, inventory, and recycling operations, and for transforming returned product into value for Cisco shareholders.

Prior to joining Cisco, Dan was Vice President for Customer Service and Quality at Palm, Inc., where he was responsible for global call center operations, repair operations, product quality, and recovery and resale of channel returns. He directed Palm's global call center and repair center restructuring, implemented an integrated approach to channel returns management and resale, and developed processes to drive product quality into design and production. Before Palm, Dan served as the Director of Delivery Operations for the Webvan Group, where he was responsible for nationwide courier operations and systems. He was previously a management consultant focused on operations and logistics management.

Dan holds a B.S. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and sits on the advisory boards of the Reverse Logistics Association and the Service and Support Professionals Association (SSPA). Dan and his wife Judy reside in Portola Valley, California.

2. Jose Garcia, Senior Director of WW Service, Xbox, - Microsoft, Inc.,

Jose has an EE from New Jersey Institute of Technology.
He designed Professional Audio High Powered Amplifiers and employed by Sony for 10 years. While working at Sony was responsible for:

• Sustaining Engineering & quality feedback to Japan
• Technical Support
• Field Technical Training
• Authorized Service in Eastern Zone of US
• As well as Sony Service Centers in that zone including largest depot repair center at Sony

After Sony Jose went to work for Philips service for 4 years where he was responsible for 20 Philips Service Centers – 3 Phillips owned Depot refurbishing centers & 2 outsourced refurbishing facilities. He managed field service over the authorized services in the US as well as tech publications and sustaining engineering.

He joined MS 4 years ago to establish WW repair of X-box console from the ground up. Building a world class team he integrated systems, processes and partnerships with expert service partners.

3. Charles Johnston – SeniorDirector & GeneralManagerReturnCenter - WAL-MART Stores, Inc.,

Charles Johnston is General Manager at the Bentonville Return Center, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Church has been with Wal-Mart for the past 13 years and his responsibilities include Returns, Imports, Exports, Tires and Printing and Mailing Distribution.

4. J. Steve Jones, Managing Director Supply Chain Services & Reverse Logistics – FedEx Corp,

Steve is a 22-year veteran of the transportation industry, with extensive experience in sales and sales management of transportation and logistics services to corporate accounts. From 1985 until 1992, Steve handled numerous sales positions in the Dallas/Fort Worth market, culminating with recognition as the top Global Sales Executive for FedEx in 1992.

He served as District Sales Manager of the Great Basin District in Salt Lake City from 1992 to 1995 and as Global Sales Manager for the Great Lakes Area from 1995 until 1997. He was promoted to a Global Sales Manager position based at Corporate in Memphis in 1997 with responsibility for strategic planning and administration of activities for Global Sales at FedEx.

In April of 1998 Steve was selected as a Managing Director for the new FedEx Worldwide Services team. In his role, he was responsible for leading the sales effort for selected high tech and telecommunications accounts across the entire FedEx enterprise.

In December of 2001 Steve was selected to lead the Supply Chain Services and Reverse Logistics sales organization with responsibility for new business development, base business growth and supply chain integration across all the FedEx operating companies.

Steve is a native of Richardson, Texas. He is a graduate of StephenF.AustinStateUniversity in Nacogdoches, Texas with a BBA in Finance. He resides in Collierville, Tennessee with his wife of 25 years and their three daughters.

5. Tony Sciarrotta, Director of Returns Management- Philips Electronics,

Tony leads returns reduction and entitlement initiatives for mainstream consumer electronics, and is also currently concerned with further driving the implementation of electronic registration for Philips products at leading retailers. Working with Philips Sales, Service, Marketing, and the Philips Business Excellence Group, Tony is helping drive several teams to improve the consumer experience and subsequently reduce the high rates of products returned with no defect found. Working with national retailers, he developed a first time survey of consumers who returned consumer electronics to understand root causes of the no defect found products

Tony is responsible for returns management results from start to finish including the disposition of products and returns disposal, and asset recovery. It's a wide-ranging role that interacts with sales, manufacturing, service, logistics, and credit – virtually every department in the Philips national and global organization.

6. Hartmut Liebel, Senior Director of Global Business Dev. – Jabil Circuit, Inc.

Liebel joined Jabil as Executive Vice President in July 2002, responsible for Jabil's Global Services division and was named Chief Operating Officer in October 2003.

Prior to joining Jabil, he served as Director of Business Development at Artesyn Technologies, a leading supplier of power conversion products and communications subsystems. He has also held positions as Assistant Treasurer of W.R. Grace, and as Vice President-Capital Markets at Bank of America and Merrill Lynch.

Liebel holds an MBA from the University of Notre Dame.

7. John Benardino - Director of Reverse Logistics - Hewlett Packard, Inc.,

John Benardino is currently a Director of Reverse Logistics for HP’s Imaging and Printing Group. In his position, John is responsible for credit issuance, engineering, remanufacturing, and all return related costs. His product responsibilities cover printing, digital imaging, supplies, scanners, and shared printing.

Over his ten years of experience with HP. John has lead outsourcing efforts for, procurement, call centers, logistics, manufacturing and financial administration. These efforts expanded across HP’s businesses, including Test and Measurement, Telecommunication, Consumer/Commercial PC and Printing.

John graduated from ArizonaStateUniversity in Tempe, Arizona. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Purchasing Logistic Management and a Masters Degree in Supply Chain Management.

8. Howard Rosenberg – Director Private Marketplaces – eBay, Inc.,

Howard joined eBay in 2002 and runs the Company’s Private Marketplace business which creates customized, private-label auction marketplaces utilizing eBay technology and infrastructure for enterprise-level manufacturers and retailers. In this role, he has overseen the development and management of over a dozen marketplaces for customers like HP, Sam’s Club, CircuitCity and the federal government of Mexico. He is currently working with advertisers, agencies and networks to build the Media Marketplace that will bring added efficiency and transparency to the purchase and sale of offline advertising.

Prior to joining eBay, Howard was founder and CEO of a web-based online video service offering its members access to a library of independent films streaming on-demand. Prior to that, he was a venture capitalist investing in branded product manufacturers, business services, retail, restaurants, and e-commerce companies. He holds dual degrees with honors in Economics from The University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School of Business and an MBA from the HarvardBusinessSchool.

9. Larry Maye – Senior Director, RL Global Repair & Logistics – Palm, Inc.,

Larry Maye is currently serving as Senior Director, RL Global Repair & Logistics at Palm.

Prior to joining Palm, Larry was the Director of Reverse Logistics Strategy and Operations Planning for Motorola Personal Communications Sector where he developed Motorola’s wireless reverse logistics strategy and technological improvements in reverse logistics operations. He has over 18 years of successful reverse logistics and operational experience both within the military and the private sector.

He was previously employed by 3Com Asia as the Director, Global Logistics and Services based on Singapore where he oversaw the successful establishment, implementation and expansion of 3Com contract service support and reverse logistics operations.

Larry is a graduate of the United StatesNavalAcademy at Annapolis where he received a degree in Science. He was certified as an Aviation Logistics Officer while attending the NavalSupplySchool in Athens, Georgia.

10. Doug Schmitt – Vice President Global Field Delivery – Dell –

Doug Schmitt serves as VP of Dell's Global Field Delivery organization with international responsibility for global break\fix field engineers, same day service delivery, spare parts depots, parts planning, service logistics, repair, reverse logistics and Dell's global command centers. In addition to Doug's role as VP Global Field Delivery he has responsibility for Americas Support Services. Previously, Doug held executive and senior management positions in service and finance at Dell, Inc.

Doug came to Dell in 1997 from Sequent Computer Systems where he held various senior level finance positions. Before Sequent, Doug worked in the banking sector.

11. Dr. Dale Rogers – PhD., University of Nevada– – Dr. Dale Rogers is the Foundation Professor of Logistics and Supply Chain Management and the Director of the Center for Logistics Management at the University of Nevada. He is also the chairman of the Reverse Logistics Executive Council ( a professional organization devoted to the improvement of reverse logistics practices. He is the leader of the sustainable supply chain research project currently underway at the University of Nevada. ( Dr. Rogers is the former cochairman of the RFID Users’ Group, an organization researching the utilization RFID technologies in the supply chain. In 2001, he was the Paper Foundation Visiting Eminent Scholar Chair of Logistics at the University of North Florida.

Dr. Rogers is a frequent speaker on topics such as: reverse logistics, logistics and supply chain strategy, e-business, third party logistics, logistics management, supply chain management. He has made over 200 presentations to professional organizations and has served as a faculty member for numerous executive programs at the University of Nevada, The Ohio State University, Stanford University, University of California at Berkeley, Michigan State University, University of North Florida, University of Alaska Anchorage, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Genco Reverse Logistics Conference, Maringa State University, Brazil, UPS, Young President’s Organization, FedEx, Unisys, International Transportation and Logistics, SITL, National Association of Purchasing Management.

Dr. Rogers has been a consultant to several companies including Kenco Logistics, Hewlett-Packard, Coca-Cola, IBM, Russell Athletic, Accenture, Flextronics, FedEx, UPS, Menlo Logistics, Genco Logistics, Sun Microsystems, Advanced Micro Devices, Mitchell & Ness, Kmart, Maersk Logistics, Handspring, Unisys Corporation and several others. Dr. Rogers has been principal investigator on research grants from numerous organizations.

Prior to entering academia, Dale worked as a Project Director and Director of Marketing for a logistics consulting and software company. He has also been employed in material management and manufacturing at the Harris Corporation, and as an instructor with the Oldsmobile Division of General Motors. In 1994 while working as a professor at the University of Nevada, Dr. Rogers was the Director of Customer Service for the Non-Carbonated Beverages Division of the Coca-Cola Company.

His current research interests are focused on: reverse logistics and returns, supply chain technologies, e-business supply chain management, and supply chain management.

Dale has published in several logistics journals and is a co-author of the book Supply Chain Management: Processes Partnerships Performance and Going Backwards: Reverse Logistics Trends and Practices, and two previous books on logistics.
