Ch. 1 Gross Income Project

The purpose of this project is to research different careers/jobs that interest you, and to better understand the salary and qualifications for those jobs. Follow the instructions below to fill out the tables and answer all the questions.

Your score on this assignment will be based on completeness, accuracy and realism of the information provided, neatness, and timeliness. Accuracy will be based on a random check of 2-3 questions or values.

1.  To get started, think about the types of jobs you might be interested in doing to begin your career once you graduate high school or college. Select the TEN jobs that interests you the most. These jobs may be in the same “field”/“job category”, or totally unrelated fields. It’s up to you. For example, you may be interested only in law enforcement, and therefore you may research ten different law enforcement jobs (such as police officer, parole officer, correctional officer, fire inspector, etc). Or you may be interested in totally different fields (such as a teacher, an engineer, a journalist, etc).

2.  Log on to www.acinet.org Click on “browse occupations” and begin your search by looking up the specific job title that most closely matches each of the ideas you brainstormed above. Use this website to complete the table with the job title, a very brief job description, and the median base salary.

4.  Using the three jobs that you have selected in step #3 above, it is now time to find some companies that are hiring for those positions. There are lots of ways to look up jobs. For this assignment you will use 4 out of the following 8 assigned websites to find job postings. Enter the job title in the keyword field and search. Find at least one different company/agency hiring from each source, and complete the below information. Select the company/agency that interest you most. Often times the company description is included in the job requisition, but you may need to go to the actual company’s website to find the information……be resourceful. The purpose of this section is to familiarize yourself with different job search engines so you can refer to this when you are ready to find a job.
