Who we are

The Northern Ireland Confederation for Health and Social Care is the representative body for the organisations that make up the HSC. We are part of the NHS Confederation, the body which represents NHS providers and commissioners in England and Wales. In addition to our core members we have an associate member scheme for organisations which work closely with the HSC to provide an opportunity for connection and communication across the system.

Our Vision and Mission

Our vision is a continually improving comprehensive health and social care service that is available to all and based on clinical need not an individual’s ability to pay.

Our mission is therefore to improve health and well-being by supporting our members provide world class standards of care for patients and users while delivering best value for taxpayers’ money.

How we do it

Influencing Influencing policy is at the heart of what we do. Through constant dialogue with Politicians, the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety and key stakeholders, we ensure that members' views are informed and taken into account.

  • InformingNICON works with partners to create a more informed public debate. We provide accurate and timely information to contribute to a greater understanding of HSC issues. We look for ideas and examples of best practice outside the usual sources - from different countries and sectors to share these with key stakeholders. We commission research or undertake special projects on an ad hoc basis.
  • Supporting and BriefingProviding practical support to our members is one of our key priorities. The NHS Confederation policy briefings and NICON weekly monitoring updates keep members on top of latest developments both here and in the NHS.

Connecting and LearningNICON run a series of events each year to provide an opportunity for networking, a forum for debate and exchange of ideas to hear the latest thinking. Our flagship event is the NICON annual conference.

Our Core Values

All of our work is underpinned by our core values:

•listening and responding to the needs of our members

•working in partnership to create dialogue and build consensus

•acting in the interests of patients and the public.
