3) / Minutes from previous meeting agreed.
4) The Naze Education & Visitor Centre – review of progress to date and future plans / EWT highlighted visiting figures from the past 3 months relating to school visits as below:
Secondary School Visits = 14
Number of Pupils = 608
Primary School Visits =5
Number of Pupils = 249
Events Held = 17
Number Of Pupils 275
Number Of Visitors = 29,528
  • ID raised the question as to how this information was recorded. EWT advised that this was recorded through feedback forms. MP questioned whether the records can determine which visitors are local or further afield. EWT advised that this was also through feedback forms.
  • EWT are keen to expand on volunteers in the New Year and develop on exhibitions. (Next exhibition – ‘Secret Water’, January)

5) Practical Management Arrangements /
  • JW is continuing to seek legal advice but the demolition of the toilet block is progressing.
  • NN arranged for the gate to be moved for larger winter parking and another gate to be placed at exit. ID raised the water issues discussed at previous meeting. NN confirmed that these were part of the reinstatement works; there are still plans in place to grasscrete areas in the future.
  • EWT confirmed that there has been a 33% increase in parking revenue. NN confirmed that this has been used on maintenance and surfacing work in the car park

6) Flood and Erosion – north east corner/north point /
  • ID confirmed that the cost breakdowns have been more than anticipated. Matched funds with Naze Protection Society have been declined but contribution is safe.
  • Option 1: 100 year provision
  • Option 2: 50 year provision
  • Option 3: No progress
  • DW confirmed that £197,600 has been agreed between parties; the £40,000 contingency from Anglian Water has not been agreed by them and £20,000 from Naze Protection Society was dependent on this. The overall short fall = £57,236.
  • JE to liaise with EWT for Practicality.
  • MNB and NT discussed technicality of counter wall.
  • DW to liaise with Frinton and Walton Town Council to discuss a potential contribution from them towards the contingency. DW will also speak to the Naze Protection Society to see if they will lift the restriction on their £20,000 being dependent on Anglian Water.
  • MNB is happy to speak to DG regarding releasing additional funds from the Naze Protection Society.
  • EWT confirmed the Crag Walk was eroding rapidly making it more difficult to access beach.

7) The Naze Tower update /
  • AB confirmed that EWT’s thought process is to collaborate further with the Naze Tower for events.
24th Mar – Opening of Tower
2nd-3rd Jun – 1940’s event
5th-6th Jul – Artist exhibitions
21st-22nd Jul – Kite events
8th Aug – Carnival week
27th-28th Oct – Halloween event
  • ID to raise potential for theatrical exhibition in 2019 with the MP. DM suggested the use of the Columbine Centre.
  • MNB looking at interpretation room and museum for developments.

8) Any Other Business /
  • MP asked if the beacon could be used in future. MNB agreed that it would be nice, potentially for the Halloween event. Discussions were had over potential rules and regulations and what permissions will need to be sought. JW will look into this.
